Old signs and buildings that you might want to use or model.

Recommended Posts

When visiting Ottery St Mary recently I walked past the derelict Ottermill complex, and thought of this thread.

It was never rail served, but I imagine many similar buildings were.

Pictures taken on 13th August this year.

Definitely should be, I can just see a siding embedded in that concrete roadway, being shunted by something in grimy BR Blue...

Cheers, Dave.

Another visit yesterday to Blists Hill Musuem, same weather as last time (rain) I took some more pictures of different bits and pieces which I will add over the next few days. Here are a few, I hope they may give you some inspiration for future models.

Thanks for adding those signs I like the way they managed to find a space to put a lottery sign in amongst them.

Hi Steve, many thanks for posting your pictures of ghost and enamel signs, it's a fascinating collection and a great source of reference. I did like the Germ Oil for extra oiliness sign, again many thanks for sharing them. Regards Adrian.

Has anyone got any pics of signage from the 70's/80's? The model i'm building is set in early mid 1980's and by then the signage of BR had become more corporate and advertising had changed greatly.  Things such as the big adverts by the side of the road or adverts on stations, buildings etc. Any help appreciated.

Just a typical thatched cottage , but it was the home of the TV presenter McDonald Hobley.

A few more bits and pieces in no particular order.

That's useful. I'm thinking of doing something similar to the overhanging bit with the Scalescenes Factory/Warehouse, and thought it would need much bigger girders than that. Was there track under there originally? I'd need track under mine, and the occasional loco would go under there.
