Nice picture of the colas pair at Heaton Lodge spent a lot of time travelling over there this past few weeks

Thanks David.

If you see some grey haired chap wearing a blue waterproof jacket standing just outside the railway boundary anywhere between Ravensthorpe and Hebden Bridge or Marsden, there’s a pretty good chance that it’ll be me. Give me a wave next time that you’re passing through.

There's obviously a strong demand for bitumen and related products at the moment as the Lindsey Oil Refinery to Preston Docks tanks is running pretty much daily Monday to Friday, with even a rare Saturday working too recently*.

Double-headed Colas 56113 and 56090 pass through Brighouse on 28th March 2019 with 6E32, 10.02 Colas Ribble Rail to Lindsey Oil Refinery, discharged bitumen tanks.

A video of the working is here.

* and again on Saturday 30th March.

IIRC this was just before the demise of the class in UK revenue working, prior to reactivation of some members of the fleet. 56078 Doncaster Enterprise at Barnetby almost 15 years ago now, 30 March 2004.

It wouldn’t surprise me, although the Calder Valley Line has received quite a lot of attention over the past couple of years.

The rails on both up and down tracks were replaced about 18 months or so ago.  The old rails, as you can see, are still in the four foot on the down track awaiting recovery.

I’m not sure how much other work was done on the formation though at that time.

On 13th May DCR 56091 and 56103 power down the fast line at Balshaw Lane Junction with the 6Z55 Chaddesden to Carlisle Kingmoor Virtual Quarry.  This is the empty train and will be loaded at the Network Rail site at Carlisle Kingmoor where the wagons will be loaded with recycled aggregate that has been reclaimed from engineering jobs.
