Steadfast
A welcome treat for my Saturday shift this weekend. A 56! "Dreadful" said the driver! by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr One of the older members of the Colas fleet, 56096 sits on the Down Reception at Westbury having arrived from Twyford with 6C25. The 14 loaded Falcons made the old girl scream as the shunt took the train up the bank towards Dilton Marsh and then back into the Down Yard. After the train was stabled, the loco went off to the holding sidings on the Up side. Grid on Westbury Fuel Point. by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr No not 1980s Mendip traction, 2020 Colas traction instead. The Colas fuel point sits on the site of the former Westbury diesel shed, where a good range of Type 5 power is on display56096 had arrived on 6C25 from Twyford and went to Canton the next day, behind 70811. 70801 is on the fuel point in the background, with 66849 and 70809 also crashing the shot. Classsix T
The ubiquitous "going away" shot. For many years I saw my own as a waste of a frame of film, these days, often invaluable rolling stock detail footage. C6T.
RMweb Gold The Pilotman Posted April 25, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 25, 2020 Interesting to see that both those trains are on the mains rather than the relief lines at Reading. Whenever possible, down empty stone trains for the Berks & Hants route were turned out onto the down main at Twyford West (they always came down the relief from Slough Panel) to get a quicker and less troublesome run through Reading. Conversely, up stone trains were less of a nuisance if you get them through Reading on clear signals on the up main and put them onto the up relief at Twyford West. Were the tracks to the left lightly used at this time as it seems weird how the sidings look less overgrown than the main running line.
