Not one but 2 56's in Harrogate today on engineers jobs, great to see some interesting traction and plant. Particularly enjoyed watching the remote control whacker plate thing going over the new ballast bed, right piece of kit!20201122_100843.jpg.8ba85250c508a94824b112906781b317.jpg20201122_100858.jpg.22f7d7691d0fa6c7d95af4cd34e23904.jpg

087 and 302 back in Harrogate again this weekend. 087 has brought up the points for the new crossover going into the station and 302 looks to be on empty ballast wagons and flat wagons. 70 813 is also lurking around too.

With the operation of this autumn's Rail Head Treatment Trains (RHTT) beginning to wind down in some parts of the country, Colas class 56s have returned to their more regular duties.

Bearing the evidence of its recent use on RHTT work, 56302 'PECO The Railway Modeller 2016 70 Years' leads sister 56113 through Brighouse on 7th December 2020 with 6E32 10.05 Colas Ribble Rail at Preston to Lindsey Oil Refinery.

It's quite educational sometimes to try to track where locos have been over a period of time and appreciate how the companies actually diagrams their assets.

At the end of last week 56302 had been working RHTTs from Shrewsbury Coleham SS.

From  5/12 I believe it then worked;

0C82  17.08 Coleham ISU (CE) - Doncaster CHS (21.15)

6C82  22.05 Belmont Down Yard - Knaresborough (00.35) - for the engineering work along the Harrogate line

on 6/12;

6C82  18.00 Skelton Jn (York) - Doncaster Up Decoy (19.07)

0C81  21.58 Doncaster Up Decoy - Barnetby Sidings Colas Rail (22.54)

on 7/12;

0E34  01.44 Barnetby Sidings Colas Rail - Lindsey Oil Refinery Colas (02.09)

6M32  03.13 Lindsey Oil Refinery Colas - Colas Ribble Rail (08.10)

6E32  10.05 Colas Ribble Rail - Lindsey Oil Refinery Colas (14.11)

0E33  14.47 Lindsey Oil Refinery - Barnetby Sidings Colas Rail (15.14).  Which is where it should be now.

As you say 'putting the miles in'.

Cheers 4630, top info, it really is educational to see how these things are diagrammed, 302 has certainly put a shift in in the last 36 hours or so. Great to see how nearly 40 year old traction still earns its keep.

All the best

James

Just been looking on Wiki to check there are preserved class 56s, if the re-engineering to class 69 goes well, any remaining suitable donors may end up being converted - a bit like with the 73s that went through an upgrade - some out of preservation.

There's a possibility that they'll run out of suitable prime movers before they run out of suitable 56 donors.......

On a misty 1st March 2021 morning, Colas Rail Freight 56049 'Robin of Templecombe 1938-2013' accelerates through Brighouse with 6E32, Colas Ribble Rail to Lindsey Oil Refinery, discharged bitumen tanks.

Interestingly it came up cancelled on RTT this morning from Lindsey but it seems 56049 went light to Colas Ribble Rail this morning

Yes, I'd noticed this morning when I checked the schedule that 6M32, the loaded working, hadn't run.

As todays 6E32 brought back a long rake of discharged wagons from the last 6M32, which ran on 25th February, I guess that there aren't any wagons left stabled at Preston.

Presumably that means the next time that 6M32 runs, then the loco will return light engine from Preston.  Have to see what happens.
