Colas 56105 approaching Brighouse on 13th December 2023 with 6E44, Colas Ribble Rail at Preston to Haverton, discharged bitumen tanks.

Always good to see a class 56 for a change as in recent months this working has been a solid class 70 duty.  Colas however currently has at least five (possibly six) of its class 70s out of action for maintenance/repair.  Even drafting in Freightliner 70009 from store at Leeds Midland Road on loan hasn't helped so far.

56098 working Leicester LIP - Carlisle Kingmoor, passing Crewe 7/1/24

On short-term hire to Colas - some reports say for one week only - to work the Carlisle-Chirk logs.

56098 disgraced itself on 6J37 and then 56049 failed on Whalley viaduct.

The train was delayed for over 7 hours before 049 was resurrected and managed to drag the train up Langho/Wilpshire bank towards Blackburn.

A quick grab vid from my back garden at 0020.

And another log train video.

I normally see 6J37 on the downhill at Settle, (unless it fails.....)  but a WFH afternoon provided this opportunity from my back garden (it coincided with a planned break away from the PC screen - honest boss!!)

And coincidentally, I had my dealer call to confirm delivery details for my Cavalex 56049 about 30 minutes after the video was shot!

Does anyone mind if I park this picture here?

It's Wednesday 24th October 1990 and the relief crew have arrived at the County of Avon's Barrow Road transfer station, Bristol, ready to work "Dusty Bin" to Stoke Gifford, then forward to Westerleigh, where Avon Council had another transfer station, via Yate Middle and Yate South Junction.BarrowRoadTransferstation.jpeg.f23ec201c39cf8ea518fcd7939e8eaf3.jpeg

It's later on Wednesday 24th October 1990 and "Dusty Bin" has reached Westerleigh Refuse Transfer station. After two run rounds and the shove back in, with the four container wagons it's brought from Stoke Gifford. Scan29.jpeg.f58f7f9716ed79665d58e2a63c5b0fbe.jpeg

The night has drawn in and it's started raining

As soon as the last loaded container has been lifted onto the final wagon the crew will work the train back to Stoke Gifford, with yet another run round in Yate Middle and attach, the four wagons, back on to the remaining wagons it left on Stoke Gifford Up reception. The loco will then run light to Bath Road Depot for fuel and water and the crew will be off home.

A few more photos I found lurking in an album, if anyone is interested.

Again, Westbury Depot, March 1989. At one time, every road, on the depot, had a line of loco's stabled over the weekends but this reduced considerably after the introduction of Yeoman's class 59's.

One from Sunday from me. Quick race down to the local station as I'd forgotten about this and remembered at the last minute.

56113 6C97 Keynsham

Screaming well as the driver gives it some more power, 56113 passes Keynsham working 6C97 Llandeilo Jn - Westbury with an empty RDT. 70803 was on the rear.
