On the morning of the 26th 56096 was stabled, shut down, together with some Network Rail autoballasters a short distance in advance of the work site. I don't why or how I noticed, but on viewing your last photo of 56096 my eye was drawn to something that I thought looked a little odd. I zoomed in on the centre axle of the leading bogie. I don't know if it is a trick of the light or a "discrepancy" in the image, but the wheel appears not to be in contact with the rail head. There's certainly daylight between the top of the railhead and centre wheel of the front bogie, as this close up shows. I'm no expert on the rail-wheel interface, so I can't comment on whether this is just highlighting a track anomaly at this point, an issue with the bogie/suspension/wheel set on 56096, or is an unusual but perfectly acceptable set of circumstances. If it's a worrying situation that requires urgent attention and someone needs to take a look, 56096 is booked away from the work site at Heaton Lodge East Junction at 0001 on 27th January. Steadfast Posted January 26, 2020 Share Posted January 26, 2020 (edited) Difficult to judge from one photo but I'd say unlikely. My opinion, The loco is sat on canted track (a curve?), and that it is simply the coning of the wheel visible as it's pushed out to an extremity with the flange close to the railhead. Axles 1 and 3 have wheels on the adjacent track blocking the view under them, so don't exhibit the same phenomenon. Consider that the loco is on a curve and that the outer wheels need to cover a longer distance than the inner ones. The inner wheels will be sat near to the outer edge and look to be making good contact, whereas the outers will ride up on the larger diameter of the tyre and appear as shown and quite possibly have the flange touching the inner face of the rail. Quite normal, especially with a recently turned set of tyres. If the tyres were well worn it would look rather different, as the tread becomes hollow and then the bogie starts hunting at speed making for an uncomfortable ride, as the conical effect has been lost and it just oscillates from side to side. 1 3 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

The last train ran on 20th December 2019 with production problems at Total cited on another forum as the reason for its non-running since then. Colas 56087 and 56049 approaching Brighouse with 6E32, 10.07 Colas Ribble Rail to Lindsey Oil Refinery, discharged bitumen tanks. I was actually glad to see it activated on the system for a change at about 7.20 pm on Sunday night,so I knew there was a good chance of it running so I got up early this morning to watch it,too dark for pics though,I was wondering why it hadn’t been running,thanks for the update. Both are still allocated to the COFS operational pool group. Max Fowler 56 082 and sister loco approach Carstairs with a Ravenstruther (or Renstrie) to York Holgate Yard. Additionally, I suspect it isn't 059 as it's sporting the larger main headlight. 056-059 as built had the smaller diameter light with black rubber surround as on 001-055. However, as former editor of the C56G newsletter, I don't ever recall seeing the Landfill Express legend on a loco. If it isn't something to do with a binliner flow, it could be connected with the fly ash traffic to Fletton. C6T.
