4mm Edwardian figures

Recommended Posts

One of the forgotten aspects of the revolutionary impact of rock and roll in the 50s, was that people stopped wearing hats - apart from anything else, a hat would destroy a carefully coiffured quiff.

It is generally considered that John F Kennedy was responsible for the death of the hat.

What is less well known, and I failed to convince Oliver Stone of this, is that, as a consequence, it was Lock & Co who arranged the hit.

Well, that's a relief.  I didn't want to think of them engulphed  by the tragedy of that dreadful James Cameron film.

A watched that film for an hour and a half and I thought.....

I know this story!

The ship sinks!

What a let down, I hope I haven't ruined the ending for anyone that hasn't seen it.

It's the old, old story of Boy meets Girl on ship.

Ship sinks.

I found the non-historic story overlaid to be pretty moronic and revoltingly sentimental, and the plaintive sound-track merely irritating.

Mind you, come to think about it, my aversion might in some measure be due to the fact that I was forced to see it by a girlfriend of the time who was pretty, moronic, and revoltingly sentimental.

By the end, had she been on the life raft, I'd have let go too.

Possibly, I lack soul.

Whereas A Night to Remember is worth it for the brief snatch of archive footage of a George the Fifth at full tilt (but not towards Southampton).

Oh, no, I feel the grim inevitability of Edwardian May Pole dancing!

I have absolutely no desire to see the Prime Minister dancing, whether or not she be wearing Edwardian clothing...

Possibly, I lack soul.

Given your profession, quite possibly...

...although I think it shows a lack of clear thinking on your part. Why let the source of your misery cause your departure, rather than hers?

(It's Maidenhead, apparently, c 1890, with a train in the station in the background.)

I was instinctively sceptical about that but on looking at the 1897 25" map on the NLS site, it's amazing how rural Maidenhead was at the end of the 19th century, to one who has to drive there from time to time nowadays. The goods shed in the background of the photo is actually on the next sheet to the south of the one linked. Might the train in fact be a rake of carriages held in the siding between the goods shed and the running lines?

Has Regularity apologised for his slight on Edwardian's profession?

At the risk of restarting last year's hats 'n' caps debate, this looks an interesting way to add a smart titfer to plastic figures:

https://www.shapeways.com/product/596TDEZEY/bowler-and-top-hats-large-assortment-ho-scale-1-87?optionId=41278322&li=marketplace

Shame it's just in HO, but might work with smaller 4mm figures too?

Ian,

He does them in 00, both sets of hats.  I know as I asked him to resize them and have bought some.  If you ask him he will have them.

EDIT:  Just checked he has 00 bowlers and top hats and 00 Boaters.  He also has 0 bowlers and top hats.

I understand that the good Mr Stadden has been working on some new releases, and that we can expect a rush of announcements soon.

That is good news.  You must have insider information as there is nothing on his blog yet.  As he is a sculptor of miniature soldiers this is a busy year for him so even better if he has had time for model railway figures.

A few years ago I obtained a photo-etched fret of spectacles in 1/72 scale from a military modelling specialist. This is something you very rarely see modelled on railway layouts despite a good number of the population wearing them.

A turn at the Moulin Rouge could do a lot for the old "Entente Cordiale".....
