Aye up David. Any ideas why the tunnel mouth was painted yellow? It should make an interesting weathering project.

WIll you be having some kind of back-scene behind Priory station or leaving it black? I'm interested to see the overall effect but I prefer a light back-scene myself, but I guess you know what you're doing.

The 'tunnel mouth' was a recess to accommodate part of a turntable, IIRC. I suspect the 'yellow' paint was originally whitewash, intended to make the site a bit more visible under blackout conditions.

Andy, Long time no see.

Click the photo, enlarge, you will see the brickwork is yellow stock.

Will put up some blackout pics when I finish.

Meanwhile, I found a rough copy,of  Priory backscene that" Runs as required" printed orff.

Am sending it to John at IDbackscenes,

he say would scan it,make it a whole and a few other tweeks, with his marvelous printing machine !

Like most other things,on the layout, these are just rough standing.

Aye up David.

Nice one David, I like it very much.

I recently had similar thoughts, when I saw a picture of a discarded layout at the rear of a picture someone posted.  It had a murky flat-grey background, looking just like a British Summer's day sky.  I thought it would make a perfect, non-distracting backscene.  Looking at yours makes me think it could well work

Regards as always

That back scene is looking really good!

Thanks Freebs your obs,are most appreciated.

Now, John at ID backscene s,has sent me a proof, after merging all photo sections,

He is going to delete the sky and put a new one in place, the white bits to take care of.

So,can anyone see anything out of proportion ?

Seeing as this is based on my original effort, I feel free to criticise it.(cos I'm a bit older now)

1

The terrace backs at the left are completely out of scale.. I'd replace them with trees, now that you have the shallow 3D model of the station building's first floor.

Looking at the back scene's  panoramic entirety, one can see the corner of the pub at the end of the 3 storey block of flats (that gets lost in the big tree looming behind the station building's first floor) ought to be modified/cut out by using more back drop printed trees.

2

I think the sky with the castle in the background forming the skyline looks fine, and should be kept as the visual focus of this sector of the backdrop.

3

I'd eliminate the terraces to the right overlooking the Folkestone Road. They will be impossible to simulate to look consistently plausible adjacent to the bridge in the the various viewpoints you tend to photograph from.

In short I'd recommend filling in with trees except for the important identifying Dover castle view behind a shallow model of the platform railings and the little building using some of those famous 2 and a half D  trees you're all so good at.

Hope this is understandable and also helpful.

How about putting some similar looking low profile scale buildings in place of the photo ones, in front of the Castle bit?

Kind regards

J

Roughly placed,last week.

Missing,is an extension to the brick wall to the low relief building, one of Richards lamp standards,

a low relief tree and low relief fencing to the bridge, all placed along that strip of platform.

Most of the items above, have yet to be made,by me.

If it is not too late I'd recommend a dose of 'Less is More' - masking out the incongruous buildings flanking the castle, perhaps with more backdrop trees

1

Here are the awkward bits marked in yellow

post-21705-0-15045700-1516405327.jpg

the above shews the backdrop square on but in reality it is seen in various angled viewpoints because

the sheet wraps around some awkward curved and right angled wall returns (as this lower pic shows)

post-21705-0-16852500-1516404950.jpg

the lower version of this awkwardly curved 'castle corner' has the problem buildings masked out by trees.

2

Here is the backdrop again square on with (some rather crude 'rubber stamp') trees masking the problem buildings as in the above angled view.

3

The back of platform fencing and building(and some trees?) are to be modeled in low relief in front of this backdrop sheet

I think you're doing a cracking job there David and the station looks really good  :good:

Thank you, slowly, slowly,to regenerate the interest in the project, for all your support.

I did have an appointment with an archytech and suryvaror, but they seem to have been n gone orf to Malta.

Leaving behind the infamous tripod.

The following is only a rough setting up, to quell the fears of the archytech Runsasrequired
