'Grundy Street' (Revisited)

Hi,   Well here we go again another project under way,and l will do my best to complete this one (l hope), what have we got this time ?  well l had a good chat to 'Bodgit'  this afternoon (keeping him from his afternoon kip) as he is the best guy to talk to if you have any problems (not just about trains),

This morning l was at a big boot sale, and l bought a acrylic paint set (another project) anyway when l got home and had a good look at it l found it had (4) A4 sheets of Daler board so that got my mind thinking about using it as the basis of my next building, so l started to put a shed together, and found it easy to cut and stick with superglue to the softwood battens l use,

As SWMBO wants a new bathroom money will be tight for a while, so no funds for the '00' project l had planned ? never mind l thought l will finish all the jobs on my '0' gauge collection, that should keep me busy for quite a while ? so l had a good look at 'Abbots Mead'  testbed, and thats where 'Bodgit' comes in,

He said why don't you make a micro depot out of it ? and thats when the penny dropped, l really took so much on with trying to build a depot with 'Abbots Bridge' as l wanted to build everything into it but alas you just can't do it in '0' well not in the space l have, so a new depot has been born, a micro one, which gives the impression of a large depot but only modelling a small part of it,

Plus l can run locos around on test and also a nice place for photos, so a start has been made, the locos will come into the yard for water via the shed, and then run back to the depot doors that will be closed, l will still keep the rolling road, might build a shell of a shed around it,

Hi George, what I actually said was Burn it :O not Build it, :stinker:  hahhaa. The plan looks better in the pics than your explanation and I can now see where you are coming from and I agree it is the right way to go, it looks really good.

When you were on the Phone I thought you said GRUMPY ST, :nono:  :nono:  :nono:  :nono:  haaaha,

but I do like Grundy St. The OO will have to wait for a little while as I am having to do, at least you can run trains, BIG BIG TRAINS, I just look at books and dream.

Keep the pickies coming mate.

Good Evening Duncan & Andy,  l think l have caught a little bit of 'Baron Bodgits' bug, but l think we all change our minds half way thru our builds trouble is l have a butterfly brain some times, but l will get there in the end, l think l will put some kind of bridge over the tracks in front of the depot ??

No George, I wouldn't, it will make it harder to move, harder to store, break up the layout to much and generally be a pain in the A. :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono:

Keep it low and flat so that it can be stored on its end next to your desk to give you room to do other things when you need to.

Finished off repairing my B4 after dropping it, added a crew and some coal, sometimes the fireman would pile up some coal on top of the boiler as there was only two little bin type coal bins on both sides of the backhead inside of the cab, if there was a lot of shunting to do it saved time returning to the coal stage.

Putting a depot front on  'Grundy Street'  just didn't look right so l am putting some warehouse and factory low relief buildings on the back wall, l will cover the whole lot with the DAS clay and scribe in some details. and weather them all up.

Morning Bodgit,  Well after much soul searching l have dropped the idea of trying to represent a depot of some sort, so l am building some low relief buildings on the back of 'GS', l know it was only going to be a test bed for my growing collection of locos, but l can extend the tracks at both ends by 24" and that would allow some shunting, so thats the plan anyway, l just need to work out how l can make two extensions to clip on while operating GS ?

l am enjoying make my own scenery on Grundy Street, but l must admit l have never been into the scenery side of the hobby, my interest is in loco building and building buildings, so l normally get Bodgit to do it for me, but its harder now, as we live a sixty odd miles away from each other, and we are older, and the aches and pains of getting older are also getting in the way, so we do most of our modelling on the phone or the RM web..

l have made a start on some brickwork that will be very run down and grubby..

Made a start on the back scene buildings, and as l had not done any work with the DAS since Bodgit's 'Trebudoc' l am a bit rusty, but have found an easier way to scribe the bricks and that is to use a old dart point, so much better, and if a bit falls out that only adds to the realism of real bricks as lots of them break up anyway...

Hi Mate, the windows look good, are you going to put a shinny black plastic in to represent windows, because once weathered with an Air Brush they could look really good.

Also a Mesh grill in the round hole would represent an extraction fan.
