Two walls have no windows as they would have originally been attached to terraces. So far I’ve only partially done the front wall. Rest of the day involved FaceTiming my sister and assisting Mrs G with a nice jigsaw of Robin Hoods Bay. That's a neat idea for the interior.

It’s just a quick Internet trawl for pub interiors, resize them and print them off in photo paper. I did the same with the TWA building and the Royal Kensington Hotel / Bristol cars showroom.....yes they’ve got pub interiors........not really......reception areas and car showroom!
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted April 28, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 28, 2020 It might have two plain walls but the other three are anything but......today’s progress with the Radnor Arms....plenty still to do. I am going to sign it as per the photo I have from the 1960s, as a Charringtons pub. 6
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted April 28, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 28, 2020 A quick look in the garage and it looks like I don’t have any white primer. I was going to primer this white rather than grey as the two blank walls should be white. I think the way round this is to assemble the front three walls and spray them grey before picking out the colours. I’ll leave the rear walls until I can get some primer. New supplies of paint pens pens for windows etc arrived today.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted April 28, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 28, 2020 Now, not being old enough to remember Charrington pubs.....awwww....banged my nose on the wall......does anyone know what colour this signage would be. Looks like cream lettering on....?
grahame
Charringtons brewery was in the Mile End Road in the East end. It merged with Bass (becoming Bass Charrington) in 1969 and the brewery closed in 1975. I remember lots of Charringtons pubs in SE London in the mid and late 70s and drank a lot of Charringtons IPA in them. I don't know the colours of the Radnor Arms (it was no longer Charringtons when I went there) but I seem to recall the corporate colours were a sort of grubby red/brown with red/white lettering: as here: Edited April 28, 2020 by grahame

There are quite a few colour pics on the Interweb and the red brown colour is prevalent. Several in cream with dark lettering and some in red with light lettering. Now to work out how to make the signs up.

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted April 29, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 29, 2020 Signs made up. The big vertical sign I cut and pasted off the picture and edited the colours and sharped it up a bit. Looks a bit like a worn sign. The rest are Time New Roman in cream. i had to remake the shorter RH wall due to a measuring cock up, nearly 5mm to narrow. All the front walls are attached to each other and have had a quick squirt of primer. Time to tidy up the Railway room! 4

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted April 30, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 30, 2020 In the time I haven’t been modelling or gardening managed to complete this nice jigsaw with Mrs G. RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted May 1, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 1, 2020 (edited) The pub now has curtains and chimney pots......somewhere I have a 100 3D printed chimney pots of varying styles....bu**ered if I can find them. The pots for this though are just plastic rod with a hole drilled in the top. Just need to finish of the roof and repaint the plain walls and it’s done. RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted May 3, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 3, 2020 Found the 3D chimney pots hoorah! Today I’ve made up the remaining mount board carcasses for Charles House. Everything is just placed, nothing attached to each other yet as it’s easier to build the outside walls first. Why is there a white roof I hear you ask....... I stuck it on upside down!

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted May 5, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) My supplies of brick plasticard have sadly expired......two more walls cut for Charles House today, I only have enough bricks left for bits of the roof area. I’ve put three loading bays in on the ground floor. The Post Office Savings Bank would have had a lot of deliveries. So tomorrow I’m going cut some of the rails to be able to separate and turn the baseboards over and start fitting point motors. They are just PECO PL10E,s liberated from my previous layout. RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted May 6, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 6, 2020 (edited) Found another sheet of brick plasticard this morning so a little bit of progress. I might have enough plasticard for most of the building. I had to rebuild part of the top floor as a photo I had of the rear of the building shows that the big long window is only on the centre wing. https://zenfolio.page.link/3YUTk I’ve started to dismantle the baseboards to fit the point motors. One board done. Edited May 6, 2020 by acg5324
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted May 7, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 7, 2020 (edited) Lovely warm sunny day today so some alfresco modelling. Second board has had point motors added. I’ve tested all the motors I have and so far all OK, most have been recovered from my previous Rio Grande layout. I’ve drawn up a quick track diagram to wrk out how many jumpers I will need between each board. Six boards starting top left. Each point is numbered with every crossover numbered as one but A and B ends. Edited May 7, 2020 by acg5324
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted May 7, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 7, 2020 (edited) Prior to our VE Day self isolating street party tomorrow I’ll get labels printed for each baseboard end jumper sets. I’ll then be able to start wiring each board up completely. Still have some supplies of beer in, St Austell Proper Job, Adnams Ghost Ship, Yorkshire Guzzler, Saltaire Citra and some Black sheep As yet no materials to make up the control panel. The limited amount of working signalling I’ll have, will be worked off local panels. The known problems with the Dapol signals means I’ll initially run them off a 9v battery. Anyway, enjoy the bank holiday tomorrow Edited May 7, 2020 by acg5324 2
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted May 8, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 8, 2020 (edited) After having a look over the historic maps of Olympia again ......... https://maps.nls.uk/view/103313288#zoom=6&lat=5621&lon=8741&layers=BT ........ I’ve found another pub to build......three on a layout......not that I’m not missing a nice social beer of course! This one is in Russell Gardens which on the layout is at the LH end of the long run of Georgian Town Houses. The pub pub is rather famous at is was the haunting ground of the members of Queen.....and has been used in the Minder TV series. I do have a Minder style jag...... Arthur and Terry cameo I think. Yet again this pub has been closed and demolished in 2014. Looks like from the small photo that it was a Truman’s pub once.
