Doing a bit of research for probably the smallest building on the layout, Franks Sandwich bar which is right on the corner of Addison Bridge Place right next to the bridge.

This is it currently....

....and this quite a few years earlier......

The building has not altered a bit, just the signage. The back of the building is directly on top on the retaining wall.

....and somewhere in middle.

Nearly finished the High Street Kensington Bridge. Retaining walls complete on one side, should get the other side sorted tomorrow. Just some painting to do on it. District line track being lifted and relayed again!

I've marked out what goes where on the scenic corner boards, road wise, pavements etc. Here are a couple of aerial views....well three.

Hi Andy,

I thought that your layout wasn't really moving... and then suddenly, it's quite a transformation. I very much like the railway in the cutting and  this will disguise the over sharp curve, I also really like the claustrophobic feel of the cutting makes the station area feel bigger. But if it was my layout I would facing a dilemma -when do I ballast and weather down inside the cutting... access will be very difficult even without any buildings.... what are your plans for approaching this part of the build?

Cheers

Duncan

Hi Duncan, thanks for the comments.

Being furloughed has certainly allowed me to get my finger out and get on with the layout after three years of little progress.

This will be the first board to get painted and ballasted. It’s just paired with an adjacent board at present so that I can relay the District line......very tight through the bridge...but OK now. Need to find my sleepers to slide into the gaps.

I’ll paint the rail sides, then ballast. The Kensington High Street Bridge will remain removable for a while yet.

I will need to lay a third and forth rail for the District line and some of their huge cable trays along the retaining wall sides too.

Just some sleeper infilling done yesterday, one board complete and another 2/3 done. Out with the paint today to paint the rail edges.

The DCC concepts CDU arrived late last week. Neat looking bit of kit....and heavy.

One of smallest buildings for Olympia. Franks Sandwich Bar. Shell constructed....along with the wooden fence either side.

I can’t get a decent view of the roof but Streetview seems to show a box of some sort, probably a water tank which I’ve made.

First washes on Franks Sandwich Bar....signs done too......but I’ve spaced some of the white on red lettering to far apart, so they have been redone.

Windows have now been added and I’ll add the signage tomorrow. A rudimentary interior will be fitted as it is close to the front to the layout.

It was the 6th of May the last time I did any work on Charles House....it’s still a long way from finished. Got the three completed walls glazed and loading bay doors added.

Just 7 more walls to complete for the main building plus all the top storey work.......................

Nice. I particularly like the row of windows with the frosted bottom half. The frames look very fine and very convincing. How did you make them?

Hi Grahame the frames are just an Evergreen strip, 110, 15 thou x 20 thou. I then ran over them with a black sharpie. The frosted bottom panes are just grey paint on the inside of the clear plasticard.

Another music connection for the layout... Franks was used for the album cover of Common People......this is in addition to the Queen connection for The Kensington pub, not yet built......

Now that would certainly be foolish...

Nestor

I remember (I think) Friday-night frozen margaritas (served in pint mugs) at Chili's Bar in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. They followed the Goldilocks principle - one wasn't enough, three were too many but two were JUST right...
