Surely it doesn't matter how many you drink as you only drink one at a time and one is an odd number. And if you do count and consider you've consumed an even number then just have one more . . . .

A bit more research for photos of the Kensington Tavern I discovered via the excellent www.minder.org website that the pub had been the Bricklayers Arms with a rather horrid paint scheme. Arthur’s Jag nicely in the shot.

I do have an older jag model and a Capri so it wouldn’t be difficult. Both The Professionals and The Sweeny were filmed around the area too.

A little bit of progress with the monster that is Charles House.

 

 

Four main external walls walls to build plus complete the top floor and add things like flag poles, access and Hvac.

Through the letterbox at lunchtime comes my order from Slaters......brick plasticard is go!

Ordered on Friday so pretty good. We had run out at Monk Bar Models.......I had the last four sheets just before lockdown.

Dug out my Jag and Capri for Johns suggested Minder cameo. Wrong types and colours of course, should be a silver Jag XJS for Arthur and a White Mk2 Capri for Terry. Although he did have a Mk3 in later series.

The Jag Mk X is a Rod Parker Model, the Capri came from Graham Avis. Might just need to order some more.

 

Im about to start on the Bricklayers Arms / Kensington Tavern which is where the cameo will be.....Radnor Arms as stand in. Now to search for suitable figures..........

Despite dry runs in assembling the walls I ended up with some issues which the squadron putty will fill. All the walls are now attached and a start has been made on the roof fittings. It’s largely a question of guesswork.  

 

 There must have been lift rooms and a boiler room along with water tank (maybe) By 1980 would any air conditioning units have been fitted?

 

So far I’ve made a pair of lift rooms and boiler chimneys. An early photo I have shows gantries for window cleaning cradles above the long vertical windows so I’ve made three. Having a cradle with window cleaners will make a nice cameo.

A piece of memorabilia arrived this week

 

This is is a fingerboard from Clapham Junction for the 0625 Newhaven Marine to Manchester Piccadilly......a train that only ran for the 1986/7 timetable.

Hi Andy. Daft question time if I may. Way back when you converted your National to dual door what did you use/how did you get a clean cut across the top of the door to get the door out?

I just scored through the side slowly until it went right through......think I did the vertical cuts the same way, don’t remember using a saw...if you nick the side a bit of filler is you friend!

I think Charles House is now 99% complete just a few roof details to add. Spot the secret entrance......Charles House was rumoured to have some covert departments like phone taping in it.

I'm not so sure. It's a whopping size and has a plethora of windows. Quite a challenge.

strange to think a train would run from Watford fast via the Trent Valley, exit the main 2 track route to manchester then rejoin! Must have been a complete nightmare for signalling though!

.......and just over 4 hrs for the entire journey. From May 1987 it started Brighton at 0635.....nicely timed for me to get to work at Haywards Heath Travel Centre for 0700. 

Stopping pattern after Olympia altered to Watford, Milton Keynes, Stoke, Macclesfield, Stockport and Manchester.......so looks like some local advice was taken on board.

Franks Sandwich bar gained it’s awnings this morning. Just some photocopy paper sprayed red then cut out and folded accordingly. They probably stick out a bit to far but I’m happy with them.

Is it worth re-visiting the window cleaner's basket. It doesn't look enough and I'd suspend it from wire so it looks like gravity is keepin the cables taut.
