Great work Andy!

Is it worth re-visiting the window cleaner's basket. It doesn't look enough and I'd suspend it from wire so it looks like gravity is keepin the cables taut.

Steven B

I have that sort of in hand....I’ve loads of lead flashing. I’m going to cut a bit to fit in the basket first. If the cotton fails it will be down to the wire!

I guess the gantries had an electric motor and a drum for the cable rather than them being in the basket?

Blimey a week since the last posting..........some gardening jobs here and at the S.I.Ls house have taken there time. Then the weather broke.

I’m currently setting out the platform retaining walls. These are Scalescenes London brick mounted on 2mm grey card. The cream brick will get toned down a lot! 10mm foamboard blocks will fill the gap......a couple of photos showing progress...and a bit of the ballasting. The ballast needs painting yet.

Hi Andy,

That signal box looks great, and I’m bowled over by Charles House.  How did you do all that glazing?

Cheers

Ben A.

Hi Ben, it’s from Freestone Models and printed as various sized grids. These are 3x2mm ones. Grahame Hedges has used them big time on his London Bridge layout.

You then use a white paint pen to do the outer frame cut out and fix. simples!

Hi Andy, I worked in Charles House from 1976 to 1989, not for MI5 though. A few hours were spent in the Radnor and a few sandwiches were bought from Franks. Nice work!

Glad it’s bought back some memories.....good hopefully.

A little bit of work done this week has included platforms. It’s grey card with Scalescenes London cream brickwork. The brickwork looked very wishy washy so I’ve redone them in dark red brick. After weathering it should be a better colour showing through.

Not much progress this week, got a few more slides scanned for the next book and most of the platform surfaces laid on one board. I’ve just ordered some code 40 rail to represent the LT 3rd and 4th Rail.

In other news news I had a pleasant walk into York today to go to work, as I had time I walked along some of the former Foss Islands Line.

My 200L water butt which has been on order since early April is in danger of actually being delivered. Should have arrived today though.

That'll be the cue for a long dry spell then.

My wife has been on leave this week, rained everyday so far......with tonight’s forecast that 227L water butt may well be full by the morning!

Walked into work again today, this time I did part of the former York to Market Weighton Line which is now a footpath through New Earswick and more of the Foss Islands Line. Just over 3 1/2 miles in a little over an hour from home to Monk Bar Models.

** Breaking news **. water butt about 1/5th full!

A little parcel arrived yesterday from Scale Model Scenery......a couple of skips, laser cut bus shelter and some pavements. The good thing is they do different corner angles not just 90 degrees. I think some grey primer on these before over painting them in a more suitable colour. They look rather good.

Another delivery yesterday was the T gauge rail. This will be for the LT 3rd and 4th rails. It’s a nice dark colour too so won’t need any chemical blacking.

I was going to use T gauge for a miniature railway on the sea front at Pentowan but I've now discovered something even smaller, using linear motor technology:

A friend in Melbourne @martink, who has built a few layouts using this system, suggested it:

Blimey 1/1000 that’s mad. How does that scale out against 1/76 as a model equivalent?

1000/76 = 13.2 so not far off 1 inch to the foot. Imagine a ride-on 5" gauge line. The rider that comes with the P&D AA motorcycle might do for the driver. I'll just need to find some 4mm scale small children and splay their legs apart (ooer missus) for the passengers.

By the way Martin @martink has just restarted his Dauntsey thread:

Ballasting is now finished on one board, I’d never used Ballast Bond glue before but was pleased with it, easy to glue around the delicate areas, points etc.

Tomorrow the board goes into the garden to give the ballast a spray of track colour etc........In the garage if wet!

I’ve started to lay the laser cut pavements, these are very good, about to order another 10 packs.

Well as it was fine weather the board had a trip outside for spraying. Some ‘quality’ toilet roll used as a soft mask for the retaining walls.

....a few photos after the spraying, with the bridges back in place..........John will notice that I ended up lifting the second bridge deck so that I could ballast underneath!

Railmatch sleepy grime and a bit of red primer, centre of the tracks will get a bit of a dark wash later.
