The trailer is coming on very nicely.

Found these pics on Flickr of a Volvo from that era, the silver chassis (which the Scania appears to have too) really stands out!

I've also just found a picture of a Scania of the same generation of the one you are modelling. It's the only one I've seen so far.

Enjoy your pie!

At the risk of swamping Andy's thread with truck pics (apologies), here's a couple of pics of Scania 140/141 trucks that might be helpful:

The bottom one (above) was the inspiration for a truck I've made from a Soehaves 3D printed cab, bashed Tomytec tractor chassis and scratch-built trailer and load (I must grey/dirty up the tyres):

Thanks for all the trucks! There are a decent amount of Edwin Shirley truck photos out there, mainly on Trucknet.....but as mentioned not many of a Scania.

This is the one I’m basing it on, it’s a 142 which my B.I.L. tells me is a V8!

The Scania in the lower picture is more similar to the 3D printed cab, no wind deflector and a more complicated paint scheme.

I think the Soehaves Scania is meant to be a 141 - with round headlights in the grille area and repeated below in the bumper (fogs?). The 142 seems to have rectangular lights, a shorter cab door and steps up in front of the road wheel arch (which are covered by the door on the 140 and 141):

As the one in the pic of four trucks on grass on the right and also the one on the left in the two Charles Russell trucks pic (the one on the right is a 140 with all lights mounted in the bumper).

Hopefully not boring you too much...

With the traditional Scania numbering style, the final number is the generation of the truck.

0 and 1 shared a shell, 2 and 3 likewise, and the 4 developed into the R series.

The first 1 or two digits tell you the engine size, so a 143 is a 14 litre 3 series, a 94 is a 9 litre 4 series etc. V8s tend to have an extra badge on the grille, as that 2 series does indeed have.

The Scania in the lower picture from Trucknet with no air deflector is a pretty good match for the 3D print from Shapeways, whether it's a 1 or a 0, should be pretty much academic in N scale.

A box of books was delivered today.......should have been published 15 months ago....but they are here now.......quicker than many model railway deliveries.

The Edwin Shirley trailer is now complete apart from reg plates and tail lights. Quite pleased with it. The Tractor unit is still in the paint shop so it’s been temporarily married to my Gibb’s of Fraserburgh tractor unit.

Looking good. Where/what/whose is the Gibbs tractor/cab unit?

It just the Tomytec Hino? Tractor unit cab......cab roof lights removed and repainted into the correct livery. It looks a bit Fodenish to me.

The other little job I’ve started is to build the three signal gantries that adorn Olympia. Two have been completed so far. They’re modified Ratio kits. The one with tubular posts sits at the south end of the station. The other one sits midway down the platform just in front of the footbridge. I will cheat and attach it to the footbridge, for protection as it can then be easily removed for track cleaning etc.

You've done a great job on the repaint, but it doesn't look like the Tomytec Hino cabs/tractor units I've got left over (and need to find something to do with - any suggestions?).

Is it one of the Tomytec older style trucks they did?

Cheers. Interesting. Presumably they're older style Hino cabs as they don't appear to have low kerb-side windows in the cab doors which I think is a current requirement in Japan. The modern Hinos (like the ones I posted a pic of) are getting more common on our roads. A few local companies (including a skip one from Weybridge) have them. I think they're quite a cheap option.

Hi, Grahame

The cab on the right (it might be because of the angle of the pose) is reminiscent of an ERF of a certain vintage, if that's any use

I have always thought that these cabs look like Seddon Atkinson Strato range of trucks, like these;

The Scania tractor unit is now largely complete. I forgot the drivers side door window, this will be partially open. Otherwise...as per Edwin Shirley Truckings motto....You Rock, We Roll.

Progress with the three signal gantries has been swift. I have various signal arms etc coming from Wizard Models (MSE) to fit them.

Pictures show that the southern end gantry had its access ladder between two running lines rather than at the foot of the platform. I have replicated this. Can’t see any access ladder for the middle gantry, maybe access was off the footbridge?

You do need some light fittings over the steps and an exhibition train though!

I’ve several photos taken at platform level through the footbridge, no sign of a ladder.
