RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted November 20, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 20, 2021 (edited) I decided to persevere with the signals and change things a bit. The dolls are tube so I cut some small pieces one to be the lamp and the other the pivot for the arms. These we’re pinned down and soldered to the post. First one done with this method is OK……and can be moved. Edited November 20, 2021 by acg5324 8 1
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted November 21, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 21, 2021 Well after much cursing and singed fingers the three dolls are complete. I’ve remade the part plastic one completely. All three dolls had a shunt semaphore on them. I’ll probably just cut out a suitable shape in plasticard as these are tiny. Photos to follow.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted November 21, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 21, 2021 (edited) The three completed dolls….three out of four can be moved! I’ll cut out the shunt arms tomorrow. The finals are by Modulu. Edited November 21, 2021 by acg5324 8
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted November 22, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 22, 2021 (edited) Today’s plan to tidy up the railway room came to nowt as I only got in there at about 1545. The dolls have been largely finished, just need the spectacle plate lens doing and final fitting. But they look OK. They aren’t glued in yet so the dolls height will be corrected. RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted December 7, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 7, 2021 Not much done on the layout over the last week or so…been socialising. SR Control retirees dinner in Redhill last Thursday. Started off at The Garland a Harvey’s pub for drinks before finishing at the local Toby Carvery. Great afternoon with old collegues. Today I made the not so long trip to Wakefield to see Heaton Lodge Jct…..well worth the trip……some photos to whet your appetite. Tomorrow another Christmas dinner, this time in York with former colleagues when I worked for BR Business Systems…..starting The Maltings so it won’t end well!
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted December 16, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 16, 2021 A flying visit to London today for lunch with my sister gave me literally 5 mins spare time at Olympia to get some photos around the back of Addison Bridge place for ……yes you guessed it more buildings…. Once again the ever changing scene in London got in the way, the builders are in. Olympia Way was also completely blocked by building development at Olympia. Earls Court is now a pile of rubble. 4
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted December 16, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 16, 2021 (edited) This gives me some idea of what blocks to build and block off the view. Edited December 19, 2021 by acg5324
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted December 20, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 20, 2021 Not much done over the weekend but managed to clear a faulty dead section of track affecting routes G-H at the southern end of the fiddle yard. No track feed and some dirt on the point blades not helping. I’ve been clearing a massive backlog of slides and negatives for the photo gallery. Tomorrow should get everything up to date. https://andygibbs.zenfolio.com Today I’ve made a start on soldering up the dolls for the third and final signal gantry. Four posts, four home signals and two shunt signals one each of the outside posts. Again solder and superglue permitting the arms will be posable.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted December 20, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 20, 2021 This EA van arrived this week. 3D printed from seller rayrimes1 on eBay. It will not surprisingly gain Royal Mail livery.
grahame
Interesting. Although a shame it has solid windows. Such a shame when it's not necessary and other 3D print designers/manufacturers can manage to produce them without. 1

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted December 21, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 21, 2021 (edited) Today I pretty well cleared the backlog of negatives and slides, they’ll get filed away tomorrow then I might actually get round to tidying up the railway room.! One thing that did get done today is to put together 3 3D printed Tractor kits. They are MF135’s from DAPR3D. They do need a bit of work to get them fitted but it’s another case of there’s no alternative. I’m not sure why they are produced in quite so many parts the main block is 4 pieces! I will have to get another one more as three on a carflat looks a bit light. ……..painting to follow. Edited December 21, 2021 by acg5324

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted December 23, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 23, 2021 (edited) The third and final gantry has now been completed apart from the lens being painted…..and the ladders adding……..and all the arms can be posed. RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted December 27, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 27, 2021 Fixing cars to the Carflats so that they don’t move around but can be changed about has been given some thought by yours truly. It wasn’t going to be rocket science how to fix……more like a PECO track pin! The Tomytec cars are easy to do as they are plastic and just clip together. Just drill a hole and glue a trimmed off track pin through the base. These locate a hole drilled in the carflat deck. The Oxford Diecast cars take a bit more work. They are screwed together and the base is diecast, some have hole in the base that goes right through others don’t. A trimmed off pin has been glued in the hole or through from the inside.
