RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted September 11, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 11, 2020 (edited) A little delivery this week included five Lemke Minis....Opel Rekord. Two estates, two saloons and a coupe. 1/160 scale but by careful placement they’ll be fine. From a distance the shape is a bit Vauxhall Vivaesque.......is that a word?........It is now. As usual they are far to shiny......and why do manufacturers make revolving wheels on n gauge cars? Edited September 21, 2020 by acg5324 2

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted September 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 20, 2020 (edited) Not much progress this week but have managed to find time to sort out the last bit of retaining walls. Just one pillar to complete........and the copping stones. Edited September 20, 2020 by acg5324
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted September 26, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2020 No further progress with finishing the retaining walls this week but thought I’d get on with something else. I’ve made a start on the next baseboard platform walls and surfaces. A fair amount of the walls have been completed along with most of the Motorail loading platforms. The surface for the Motorail terminal has been cut and I’ve built the loading ramps. A small piece of Evergreen L angle has been used to prop up the ramp. I’ll use some filler to fill the gap. Might just have a enough things to weigh the card down as the glue sets!

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted September 27, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 27, 2020 (edited) Two of the loading platform surfaces were completed today. I should get the third done tomorrow and that will complete the NW bays. The SE and SW bays are already done leaving just the NE bays. A tidy baseboard....tidy mind.......err nope that’s never worked with me! Edited September 27, 2020 by acg5324

Duncan.
Hi Andy, I'm not sure if I want to know what is happening in the penthouse flat. However, (perhaps I missed it earlier in the thread), can you tell me about the construction of the Georgian (?) Terrace at the back of the layout? Have you produced your own artwork for these buildings? The layout is looking really great. Cheers Duncan
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted September 28, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 28, 2020 Thanks Duncan, The Penthouse is home to a Noch naughty scene between some ladies, which the window cleaner has interrupted......... The Georgian Townhouses, I wish they were a storey higher, are a card kit. It’s one of only a few that Kingsway Models Make in 2mm, 90% of the Range is 4mm. https://www.kingswaymodels.co.uk/ They are slightly modified with different front doors and some relief detail so that they don’t look so flat......and one has had a Penthouse added! 1
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted September 28, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 28, 2020 Tomorrow’s jobs, see if the York to Scarborough water jetting train is top n tailed class 37s again, as it was today. Heard it rather than saw it running 50 mins late. I was going to get some photos of it on its return but it didn’t report on Realtime trains until Strensal which is too late for me to get anywhere. After that it’s paint the rail edges on the remaining boards prior to a start on ballasting. I have one more bridge to build which hides the northern entrance to the fiddle yard. It’s another plate girder bridge which has Addison Gardens crossing it.

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted September 29, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2020 (edited) The c37s didn’t run today...b***** typical it’s been lovely and sunny. Managed to get some tidying up done....no honest it is tidier.....I’ve emptied the bin twice! Rail edges painted on about 60% of the rails that are left and I’ve started marking out where the final bridge will go. Even got the final bits of retaining wall sprayed and capped out. grahame
Andy, What's the overall size of the layout? And is it permanently fixed in its location or will it be able to be taken out and exhibited at shows?

The intention is to take it on the road when it’s completed enough. Lots of wiring to do yet and build the control panel. You should have plenty of time to progress it while this pandemic persists. But when exhibitions return I'll be looking forward to getting a chance to see it. 10ft length is probably quite a challenge for what is a rather long station prototype. I'm hoping to cram LB in to 11ft (without the return loops) and that never had very long platforms (although more recently extended that's out of my target timeframe). Have you included any selective compression or left things out to make it fit? I certainly have in my plans.

A bit of both the SE, NE and NW bays have all been reduced in number and length, the main platform is much shorter too.....and I’ve had to move things around track wise to make it workable. I’ll still be able to run decent length trains, which is what I wanted and the fiddle yard is about as big as I could get away with.

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted October 1, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2020 (edited) One advantage of living almost next to the railway line is the unexpected.....whilst having breakfast a steam loco went by heading for Scarborough with just its support coach. A quick check on RTT showed it returning at 1055 to Carnforth. A quick text to my local everything steamy expert advised me it was Galatea / Alberta gone to pick up a coach from Scarborough that had been taken off a train last month and was back to Carnforth for repairs. A later check on RTT showed the train had departed 20+ mins early and was now 45 mins early. A quick drive to New Earswick to get some photos, I’d barely got out of the car when I could hear it’s whistle. Now 75 mins early here are the three rather hurried photos I got.
