Haven't we been here before? Remember the Lynda Baron song that introduced TWTW......'It's All Been Done Before.....But So Have Spring And Summer'.She's still tripping the boards,by the way....saw her in Sheffield Crucible's production of 'The Daughter In Law' by DH Lawrence, earlier in the year.Good performance, too ....Hornby please follow her example....but remember, fairy stories belong in Christmas pantomime and we're a bit long in the tooth for that.

Best advice in my view is to go to a retailer you know and hope he doesn't get rationed - a trick Hornby seem to be increasingly good at.

I do this anyway, but it can be a challenge. Currently my two preferred outlets cannot confirm product numbers for the new Halls as the prepro models being displayed do not tally with the order forms. I wish to order small tender versions but as the paperwork has no mention of different tender types, both shops have no idea what the catalogue number is!

I'm going to be hopeful and imagine that the rationing nonsense will be behind us by the time the Halls arrive.

A 2014 catalogue is a great opportunity for Hornby to clear up all the mysteries about Hall details and liveries. Let's see.

The TWTWTW singer was Millicent Martin, Lynda Baron did the honours on various other shows, I wonder if the latter will be in the new version of 'Open All Hours'? (which should at least arrive on time)

Also re the MZ Eats Coats HSTs, as they were an MZ exclusive, but that is no longer a going concern, would that mean that in the future (the distant future with they way things currently are sadly) that Hornby could have another EC set in the catalogue?

I have been reading this thread from the outset, and there are some very interesting points being made, the input from those who have experience with overseas manufacturing and shipping are particularly useful. I for one wish Hornby all the best and that they can recover from their current problems. I'd much rather see 5 new models of various kinds arrive and see people debating the plus and minus points of them than the (very) slow drip there is at present.

I have a DoG on order, the money is sat in a savings account, so the longer it takes to arrive, the more interest I gain. It also gives me chance to get some more boards made so I can have a layout to run it on!

Things like the A4 set aren't really my cup of tea (although I would like a couple of Streaks) but they really need to arrive before the visitors are shipped accross the Atlantic again, fingers crossed they will!

Until we get any sort of communication from our shop of choice to say that item X has arrived, there really is nothing any of us can do. We certainly can't speed up productuin, no matter howm much we might want to,

Cheers

J

Judging by how long the MZ East Coast HST sets were sitting on the shelves for and how deeply they needed to be discounted to sell, I dont think Hornby will be in a rush to produce more so I doubt the question will arise

Fifteen days further on.

The last column gives any changes to the expected arrival at Hornby. There is an awful lot of items slipped into the 2nd half of December, which will probably mean that retailers will not see them before Hornby close down for Christmas.

I also find it rather staggering that some items that were due within days of the original list being made have slipped back by weeks.

Not happy reading.

I'll believe things when I see them.  I bought a BR Gresley Brake 3rd 'Suburban' from Kernow's three weeks ago but I see its release has been delayed...  until mid_November?

There do seem to be occasional items where it is released in small batches, and it is not unknown for some retailers to not get anything from the first batch that arrives.

Thanks for the update but here we go again - and rather ludicrous in some respects as my original order for BR black 4266 and 7229 were collected from the retailer at the beginning of last week (on the 8th, and they were definitely new stock, not ex Modelzone) and my replacement 7202 (replacing the badly bent one) was handed to me at the Farnham show on Saturday having been delivered to the retailer (a different one) during last week - implying it at least had arrived somewhere in England by 04 October!

I do wonder about the person compiling this information for the information of retailers, does Hornby have disconnected left hands and right hands :O  :scratchhead:

As I complied the list, I did keep an eye out for anything that might have been released. However, as we have not received any new models since the end of September rush, this was an easy task.

Stationmaster: Your comment would back up my comment that items are now being released in batches. You have bought from the 1st batch, whilst I await stock from the 2nd batch, hopefully at the time stated in the list.

So you have work on your hands.....detailing,fault correcting....and....most importantly, weathering,Mike. Is this going to be the long awaited,much-heralded....filthiest pair of tanks west of Severn Tunnel Junction ? Maybe a pair of Duffryn Yard's finest ? Suitably 'mucked',they DO look the part and haul surprisingly ( considering their relative lack of weight ) well. Good luck !

"No supply" is an interesting one. Could it mean that what has already been supplied is your lot (as it were) and no further batches will be produced? Not good if you pre-ordered when announced and your chosen retailer hasn't had its allocation yet...

How does Hornby decide which retailers get models from each batch I wonder?

That particular model is the only one in the list that I was waiting for, but a dealer had come up trumps a couple of weeks ago, so fortunately that's that. Two leading box-shifters never showed them as in stock, implying their pre-orders had drained the pond as far as they were concerned. ISTR we had the same hookum when the 2-BIL first appeared, yet some months later there were plenty to go around, and e-bay still has a goodly supply of the original issue. Once again one feels that the size of batches is being decided by someone sticking a pin rather than by awareness of how much has been sold of a comparable nature - e.g. in this case Hornby Maunsells in olive. Baffling.

Thanks Ian.  I'm still researching numbers for the 2-8-0Ts I, one 2-8-2T will probably remain as Hornby have numbered it once I've checked the allocations while the other will undergo a major change from 7202 in GW green to 7212 in ex-works(ish) BR black as I phot'd the original at STJ in September 1962 but with the safety valve cover in place on mine ;).  Ideally they all need to be Eastern/Western Valleys or Newport/STJ sheds for me.

There was a bloke selling them at the Farnham show last weekend Ian - at a fairly good discount, yet some retailers I know of had their orders reduced (and in one case such reduction denied!) by Hornby.

And yes, there seems to be no doubt at all that stuff is still being released in batches (as per my conversation with SK noted early on in this thread although I think as far as the various GW tanks are concerned we now appear to be on at least the 4th batch for some of them.  I also get the impression - as mentioned above - that those 'part timers' who run their businesses from their home or lock-up etc are getting reasonable supplies (perhaps not of everything?) of stuff which is here through the wholesaler while Hornby are still 'rationing' retailers.  The  chap at Farnham also had a number of BR black 42XX (at £98.50 - looks like he price matches Hattons?).

I rarely stray into the realms of today's locomotives ( 1 re-motored Lima CL 60 ) however being a lifelong supporter of Wolverhampton Wanderers ( someone has to!) I am toying with the idea of purchasing the CL 66 carrying that name. I am presuming that it is a railroad version of the ex Lima 66 with the newer Hornby 5 pole motor on board.

I wonder if anyone could let me know if the loco will have directional lights and be DCC ready? If it does not have lights could anyone suggest a good manufacturer of lighting rigs for locos

Thanks in anticipation

Hi 7013,

The Class 66 is an ex-Lima model with the following features/upgrades:

- new 5-pole motor

- NEM couplings (narrow couplings)

- 8-pin DCC socket

- etched nameplates (apparently) \

*The model has no directional lights. But if you want to fit some then EXPRESS MODELS do a range of kits. Scroll down to the Class 66 section.

If you want a proper class 66 buy the Bachmann one and renumber it. Its vastly superior to the Hornby loco and you need only change one number and add plates.

Also comes with directional lights.

Here is a sample.

I have both the Lima (current Hornby shell) and the Bachmann version, in the same livery. Just on looks alone the Bachmann version is miles ahead, the mouldings are crisper, the livery application is sharper, and it comes with lights fitted.

By the time you've detailed the Hornby version (£10 for the detail kit) and added lights (£18 from Express Models) you are already up to the RRP of the Bachmann model.

If it were me, I'd be going for the Bachmann model every day of the week.

Mark

How can you make money when the only product you have in abundance is "hot air" ?

I seem to recall at the start of the year, word was , the newly announced Star was so far advanced that late Feb early March was expected arrival time.

Yet here we are in late Oct. with another pushed back date......
