Evening folks.

The second TRU is pretty much finished (thank goodness, been working on them for over a year!) Needs a very light weathering next time I have a weathering session.

Next project, a new shed! The current shed was always to be a temporary measure and I fancy modelling one of the new corrugated sheds like the one at Bescot.

The current shed

Mock up of the new style corrugated shed in card

The card mock-up with a sheet of SE Finecast corrugated sheeting clipped on to gauge the effect

Will make the frame out of 1mm plasticard then cover with the sheeting.

Cheers

Heard the growl of a class 60 travelling in the wind so headed down the Laoson Valley today. 60011 was at the helm on the Humber to Laoson Valley tanks today.

(A big thank you to Ben and Mike from Revolution for producing the TEA’s. Great packaging too!)

Saw your post on the Revolution TEA page which directed me here. Just spent an enjoyable two hours with a coffee reading through the 20 pages of your layout build. Stunning work and inspiring me to get started.

A perfect relaxing Sunday morning read after the frenzy of Warley yesterday.

Thanks Scottish Exile. Lovely to get a nice compliment!

By contrast I took my boys to the frenzy of Warley this afternoon.

Shock, horror... I've actually done some modelling!

Work on the shed has commenced. Ends and length-ways piece cut from 1mm plasticard

post-17057-0-81057900-1543409704_thumb.jpg

In hindsight I should have used 2mm as 1mm was very flimsy. I added another layer of 1mm to the length-ways pieces which gave it some more rigidity.

I picked up a sheet of 0.5mm slightly bigger than A3 from Warley. This was glued on in three goes, waiting a few hours for the glue to dry between each section - firstly along one side.

Then at the top, then the final side

post-17057-0-99131200-1543410010_thumb.jpg

Finally trimmed the excess off ready for cladding in the ribbed plasticard

(Guess who knocked over the bottle of Plastic Weld which stripped all the printing from my cutting mat! - Doh)

Following the arrival of the Revolution TEA’s last Saturday, another couple of wagons I ordered over a year ago arrived today.

Nice tankers and the Cavalex Hoppers look stunning.

Hope they consider doing the hoppers in 7mm (Are you listening Grimley???)!!!  ;)

You've done a nice job of the two road shed up to now. I just can't get my head around structures and buildings, but that is looking very nice indeed.

Jinty ;)

A bit more progress on the shed to report

post-17057-0-63820100-1544390177_thumb.jpeg

Angle profile added around the doors. It’s hidden all my wonky cutting a treat!

post-17057-0-01670200-1544390259_thumb.jpeg

Some roof vents added from offcuts of plasic rod and tube.

A couple of spotlights and interior lighting added and wired up on test.

Ready for painting now. Will probably need several coats of paint to prevent light bleed only to return to off white.

Modelling was accompanied by my advent tipple!

Thanks Whittle.

When I started building Laoson Valley over 5 years ago(!) I hadn't a clue how to make any of this and it was only by reading others' techniques on RMweb that I thought I could give it a go. There are plenty of modellers with far far more skill than me, but if me putting up a few work-in-progress photos helps others get inspired, then I'm be happy.

Gary - I briefly see the new Bescot shed when heading up the M6 - it was one of the handful I have used as inspiration. The fact my shed is recognisable is a good sign!

The shed hasn't progressed at all over the last few weeks. In the photos above you can see a slight outwards bow in the walls. The shed has spend the last month with some masking tape pinching the sides together in an attempt to straighten the walls. In the meantime I've been working on a couple of other side projects for the TMD yard. Photos to follows once I make a little more progress.

Cheers
