Freightliner 47830 'Beaching's Legacy' stands at a bitterly cold Warrington Bank Quay working 0Z44 Crewe Bas Hall SSM and return via WBQ and Northwich. The move was organised to train Carlisle drivers on the section between Acton Bridge and Northwich via the curve at Hartford Jn. 1/3/18

I hope you don't mind me contributing to this thread. Found this photo of 47298 in a pile of photos from work. Unfortunately I don't have a date or location, but I believe 47298 was cut up at Rotherham in 2007, so I'm thinking 2006-ish or a bit earlier perhaps? The location could be Tinsley, given the short distance fro there to Rotherham - but this is just a wild guess, I suppose it could be just about anywhere. Unless of course anyone out there could provide more accurate details? Not much to go on though, only a yard light which were/are pretty common.

47298 was resurrected and overhauled by DRS around 2002 before being scrapped in 2007. This photo may well have been taken around 1999 as there is a similar one, at a different location - Healey Mills, on www.Class47.co.uk http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_zoom_v3.php?img=0955010166000.

Edit: Yours is taken earlier so more likely 1999 - in yours 47298 still has the overhead warning sticker on the cab front

Here's an early shot of a two-tone green one, with full yellow ends:

Just browsing this topic, and it struck me that this is surely a rare image of a gronk devoid of all warning stripes at such a late date?

What do others think?

Well spotted, John! I've never noticed that before. I've used the 'search' function to check on this forum but couldn't find a definitive answer. I also took a photo on the same day showing a better view of the end of D3580 where the lack of 'wasp stripes' is more obvious.

I'll start a new topic in the UK Prototype Questions section with this other photo (which also shows 44993 leaving Preston) as I don't want to hijack this 'Class 47 Photos' thread.

Regards

Trevor
