47805 passing through Settle 1/7/20 on S&C driver training duties for the upcoming loco-hauled services (see separate thread)

Just had a quick look at the loco history.

It's been renumbered from D1935 to 47257/650/805 and repainted a few times.

Since becoming 47805, it has carried seven paint schemes and five names! Is this a record?

.... but still sports a cab roof mounted NRN antenna, which ceased to be a working system nearly 6 years ago!

Very nice photo by the way.

It's heading north towards Brum with the wrong headcode, probably from the previous day's working.... if it's a Padd - Brum job the Old Oak crew are being uncharacteristically slack....! Could be a Poole - Newcastle or Bournemouth - Manchester service though. Just noticed it still has the three part radiator grille it was built with.

Let’s hope it didn’t get routed into Acton yard, then...

What bashing was all about. You didn’t know what would appear; no sectorisation so a loco could work a freight then straight onto a passenger train. When it became same old, same old is when I lost interest in haulage.

Click on the photo for the Flickr description - says it was on the 08.41 Reading - New Street.

Photo also appears at class47.co.uk with extra info on the loco:

A Google search gives 1V73 (late '60s/early '70s) as 9am-ish Liverpool-Plymouth. The only example of 1V73 in 1975 I could find is another northbound service (so blinds not changed again?).

Wigan. 47 passing a 87 i think? on a container working near SP depot. Early '80's.

I can't see the flexicoil springs between bogie and body, so must be either a multiple jumper fitted 86/0 or more probably 86/3.

And it has a Stone-Faiveley pantograph, the 87s had cross-arm ones

Also has grilles down the body sides/middle unlike a 87, so i think you are right with 86/3.

Nice photo. Could even qualify for "When the real thing looks like a model" thread.
