RMweb Gold nigb55009 Posted September 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 10, 2020 The wagons are CBAs, there is a thread on here called Margam to Tunstead stone trains 1971-1972. The train in the photo was probably diverted as it normally ran via the Hope Valley line.

The 47 in the centre road is the one having its windscreen wiped in my earlier pic, as this was a few shots later in the negatives. Don't know its number. RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted September 11, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 11, 2020 (edited) Reading used to be a popular spot for spotting in the mid-late 1980’s. 47’s were loco changes for heading up to the midlands from the SR if I recall ? As 156’s arrived in Scotland, 47/4s (and 47/7’s) headed south, soon followed by the remainder when 158’s arrived. Spent a lot of time a Reading spotting, and of course Eames ModelShop down the hill from the station. Steadfast
Here's some 47 shots I've put on Flickr recently, clicking on the pics will take you to Flickr and able to view them in a larger size. I remember these trips like they were weeks ago, but 2009 sounds ages ago. How things have changed since then! Smokey and the Bandit by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr 47848 'Titan Star' leads 47839 'Pegasus' through Culham on hire to Colas working 6Z48 Burton upon Trent - Dollands Moor empty steel wagons. The loaded train brought steel from Europe for use in Toyota's car factory near Derby. This Colas working saw a range of 47s on it, including this pair hired from Riviera Trians. That smoke merrily puffing from the underframe would see the train recess at Didcot for attention from the fire brigade. It would also allow a second shot at Cholsey for us, seen below. Presumably nothing too critical, as the train wasn't delayed too much by Trumpton's attendance. Push push push! by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr 47839 'Pegasus' is doing all the work with 47848 'Titan Star' shut down on the front as 6Z48 Burton upon Trent - Dollands Moor passes Cholsey. The haze in the distance is smoke from 839 where it had been working hard, the driver easing the power back roughly around the signal in the background. The train had earlier been seen smoking through Culham and had been attended to at Didcot by the fire brigade. 47848 was shut down as a result, here running with no lights before being removed at Reading, with 839 continuing solo to Kent. Colas often hired locos to have enough 47s to be able to run all their services, hence the Riviera Trains pair seen here. Stu from EGDL
Hi Gang; A couple of scans from an old contact sheet. Found during a clearout. The pics date from '86 I think. Apologies for the quality!! 1st is 47417 having piloted an AC into Glasgow Central (either all the way via the S&C or up the G&SW) 2nd is 47593 on the famous 1715 GQS-EDW (in between the normal Push-Pulls as a commuter extra) Later; Stu from EGDL

It could have come via the GSW if the electric was needed in Glasgow for a southbound train later, but I think it more likely to have been a failure or the wires were switched off. There’s an unpiloted 86 in the next platform which seems likely to arrived via Carstairs.
Steadfast
Here's a pair of 47s from last week on a charter. Double Duffs by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr Dodging the shadows at Bathampton, 47593 'Galloway Princess' and 47805 'Roger Hosking MA 1925 - 2013' are taking it steady on the approach to Bathampton Junction as they head 1Z30 Crewe - Weymouth Statesman Rail service. After heading down the Avon Valley, rather than turning right at Westbury and travelling to Weymouth via Castle Cary, the train was routed via the Wylye Valley, Southampton and Poole. Not a bad start to the day, but Mr LSL, when will we see your fantastic Intercity Swallow coloured stock out on the Western? It's the livery of my childhood. Pretty please?
