Mr Dowling has a few choice words to say about that caravan on at least one of his other Flickr photos. Apparently it was dumped and it’s position couldn’t have been worse for photos there. It does rather draw the eye, but an interesting photo nonetheless.

Curious thing about this shot is that it's a down train with an up train's headcode!

I seem to recall this being discussed in another thread somewhere - the upshot being the head code is legit.

This was the TOPS-numbered blue one with original roof grilles Bachmann produced (Heljan also did 47122) but it didn't run in this condition for very long - I logged 47148 in green in 1974 then some months later in blue as "ex-works", but since it still retained these roof grilles it must have been a depot repaint, as by then a works visit would have fitted it with air brakes and Serck shutters. It couldn't have had to wait long as I visited Crewe Works late March 76 and found the last vac-only 47s going through - 47096/102/108 waiting with 47157 just done and still in primer (as was 47601) - 47148 had already been dual-braked by then.

Bit of a random selection...

A damp Warrington in April 1983, Manchester waste train I think:

Norwich Trowse about 1985 I think:

Chinley with cement about 1987, remains of signalbox and station building still there, but down to two tracks:

S&C diversion double-headed at Dent in 1989:

Double-headed 47s, I think on the climb from Stroud to Sapperton. I think this train was from Longbridge to Swindon. I was a supply teacher at this time (the early 1990s?), teaching music at a school in Stroud in an old building right next to the railway line. The whole place shook for ages when this long train went past every morning. I wish I had got a photo of it on a decent day, instead of in the mist.

D1733  Wellington 1963 by David Christie

Experimental Liveried D1733 at Wellington Jun'64

That's a cracking image - I wonder if David also photographed the Westerns in their various liveries at Wellington in the same period....? If so he'd have captured them in maroon, desert sand, golden ochre and green livery.

He does have a fantastic album of pics of diesels from this period.

Like is not good enough, and now you've reminded me why I loved Westerns.  Isn't that a peach.

Such a weird and wonderful selection of stock - Mk1 suburban stock with a GWR? or Stanier BG? Was this departmental stock - does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

Tom.

If you click on the photo it will take you to the original on Flickr. In the comments on the photo is a suggestion that these coaches were used for some filming at Marylebone. There are further photos of some of the stock in that stream. It looks like the rear 3 coaches at least must have been used or at least in the station for a few months if the dates are accurate.
