I like the guard rails. You don't see them often enough on models.

Even straight viaducts have guard rails.

And quite often (always?) ‘run in’ rails on the outside to make sure that derailed wheels go to the safe side of the guard rails across the viaduct.  No photo I’m afraid.

Paul.

Wow Mark, that really is looking the Biz mate, I've never seen Guard Rails on Models before, and TBH never noticed them on any real pics of Viaducts either.

Superb Greenery and Ballasting as well.

Here are a couple from the web:

About halfway down this page is a picture taken from the back of a DMU after crossing Trenance Viaduct, showing bullhead track with external guard rails on the Down line and flat-bottom track with internal guard rails on the Up line:

Paul/Mark, Keith Norgrove's ("Grovenor" on RMweb) excellent website includes a number of GWR track drawings including this one for FB viaduct guards, as shown in the pictures above:

http://www.norgrove.me.uk/GWRtracknotes/R4296A.pdf

For completeness, the BH one is at:

http://www.norgrove.me.uk/GWRtracknotes/R1777.pdf

I'm going to make a representation of the "New pattern, cross-sleepered track" design.

Hope this is of interest, even though it's a different railway from Buck's Lane.

Hi Mark,

In your RM article you mention your control panels.  A search on your thread hasn’t found any posts with photos: I’m particularly interested in your switches numbered as levers - do you have any photos?

Thanks,  Paul.

Hey buddy, long time no see.

I bought RM last week (first time I’ve bought any mag other than MRJ in years) and saw your article. Looks proper good and reads well; job well done.

Well done.

Can I add an award for best mind bending signalling too?  Somewhat belatedly I want to say thanks for the photos of the ’box diagram’: Arranged for operating the layout from the rear (tick), switch/levers numbered as they would be in the box with 1 on the left (tick), but the box is the opposite way round (my brain hurts!).  Must take a bit of getting used to.

I do like your use of the same switch/lever for both ends of the siding run round loop. Simple but effective.

Paul.

the way the control panel sits works very well if I could I would of put the signal box on the up side not the down side as it sits now.

A potential ‘reason’ for you: “some time ago, the box was relocked, and to get the new frame in before the old was decommissioned it was installed facing the back of the box”.

To stick in the ‘ideas’ box and come back to when you’ve run out of other things to do (if ever!).
