Popular Post 87023Velocity
Cheers Anthony, I should have got more IZAs at the pre-order stage! Weathering of the freight stock continues. Over the last few evenings I have been looking at the 2 Farish ZAA Pike (ex SPA) which I have. Managed to get a battered faded look which I am happy with. This has been done using powders and a matt varnish with a little white added. The trouble with starting to weather the stock is that the out of the box or freshly resprayed stuff then stands out. Technically these 2 would be SPAs in EWS ownership but I think they will be left as ZAA. I have noticed that I forgot to add warning flashes to the ends but these can easily added. Popular Post 87023Velocity
Blackburn show is next month so trying to get a few more items of rolling stock ready to debut at the show. This week progress has been made on 47785 Fiona Castle which is to be finished in EWS livery. The numbers and nameplates are coming from Railtec. Also the 2 Dapol class 142's are progressing well, quite happy with the results when all the masking tape was removed. There is some touching up to do but as say quite happy so far. Also picked up some more Farish HEAs at the Wigan show so made a start on weathering them, now got a rake of 16 but hopefully that will increase by Blackburn. Popular Post 87023Velocity
Both 142's are now ready for a coat of gloss varnish in preparation for applying the transfers. The underframes have also been weathered. Here is progress so far. 20

Cheers Simon Hi Simon, If you do, do a step-by-step will you Its one that's on my to do list, after I've actually purchased one and converted it to 2FS. Im just not sure if I can buck up the courage to attack a brand new 200 notes model with the airbrush lol! But GMPTE orange/brown just has to be done. Edit: Not sure where I got that figure from £109 is quite reasonable for a DMU actually! Rich Edited October 15, 2019 by MarshLane
87023Velocity
Tonights progress has seen a start of applying transfers for 142070, the picture above was for 142038. Both bodies have been given a coat of Johnson's Klear. The unit numbers and FNW logos are from Precision, the cantrail stripe is Railtec. Hopefully have both of these ready for varnishing by the end of the week, famous last words. Cheers Simon

87023Velocity
Both the 142's are basically done, doors now painted and loosely fitted in position. Just require a coat of varnish then full reassembly with the glazing etc. Just need a Merseyrail yellow version and a FNW blue and gold though Dapol may announce these in the future. Cheers Simon
DavidMcKenzie
That looks spot on Simon. Another brilliant respray. I always thought that livery sat well on the 142s. All the best Dave 1
Steadfast
Excellent work on the Pacer Simon. Do they come apart easily enough? The 153s were a pig. Dapol stuff definitely harder to dismantle than Farish. I fancy a gold star ex FNW pacer with FGW branding and pink doors Jo

Yes they both came apart relatively easily enough, at first did not realise the doors could be taken out though. Quite fancy a FNW blue and gold star version. Don't think you can get the paint though? Cheers Simon Edited October 19, 2019 by 87023Velocity
Steadfast
Good to know, will have to keep an eye on cheap ones when I have some cash spare! Looking at the Farish 150 alongside your Mainline 37, perhaps Mainline blue with a drop of purple added? Jo
87023Velocity
First of the 142's completed, 142038 ready for service. 142070 should be finished tomorrow. Also 47785 Fiona Castle progressing, hopefully have it ready by end of this week. Cheers Simon
woodenhead
Amazing the difference a decent livery and a bit of weathering makes to the 142 1

You seem to get hardly any, if any, little paint bleed on the edges. Rich

I have had bleed though occasionally on other projects before and I am wondering if the paint had been thinned too much at the time so it could creep under the tape? 87023Velocity
Both 142's now assembled and given a test run, 142070 sounds like it has a flat! Will probably leave weathering the bodies till after Blackburn. The underframes have received a basic coat of sleeper grime and this will be added to at some point. Also some posed pictures doubled up with a FNW blue 150 and a Regional Railways Northwest class 156. Cheers Simon
87023Velocity
47785 Fiona Castle in EWS livery is almost complete, just last few bits of detail to add, control cables for PCV ,aerials, pipes etc then a coat of matt varnish. Also need to fit class 66 buffers instead of the standard 47 buffers. Here is progress so far. 2 weeks today and Dallam should be set up ready for the Blackburn show. 87023Velocity
Received a delivery this morning, a twin pack of the Dapol weathered ECC clay tanks, known as the silver bullets. They look smart, will stick with the 2 for now (the weathered ECC versions seem to be tricky to get hold off), they can go in an Enterprise working. Will look at building up to a full rake (approx 12-13)once the fiddleyard extension is done. Here 66135 heads south with the return Irvine to Burngallow working past Dallam sidings then heading under Bewsey Road bridge. 87023Velocity
With less than a week to go to Blackburn, the a couple of the signals have been wired in,these being the 2 on the bi-directional slow line. Hopefully the gantry should be wired in by Tuesday. The platforms for the location cabinets have been painted, weathered and bedded into position. Cheers Simon
DavidMcKenzie
The platforms and cabinets are a nice addition and that 142 respray looks brilliant on the layout. Cracking modeling as always. All the best for the show next weekend. Dave
