Popular Post 87023Velocity
Not much modelling been happening this week however have had plenty of operating in the evenings, usually for an hour or so. DavidMcKenzie
Outstanding set of photos there Simon. The loadhaul 60 on the curve looks very realistic, the EWS 47 in the yard has captured the atmosphere perfectly and your DB 90 is a cracking model and a favourite of mine. Thanks for sharing the photos and all the best, Dave 2
RMweb Gold MarshLane Posted November 19, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 19, 2021 Wonderful Simon, Always enjoy your updates, keep the coming! if I can achieve half as much realism as you have here I’ll be happy! Have you noticed there are a couple of Farish 90s (one in Intercity and one in Virgin) and an 87 on eBay the moment? Just mentioning in case you fancied another repaint!! I’d bid myself if I wasn’t trying to stay focused on building the American layout! Rich

Liveries for these will probably be 1 Virgin, 1 RfD European and probably 1 RES. Once these are done will start looking again. Cheers Simon
87023Velocity
Actually got some modelling done today. This 37 is to become 37520 complete with ploughs. Numbers have been ordered from Railtec. Could do with a few more EWS 37s, maybe a 37/7. Here is a picture of 37520 at Wigan NW from Flickr (not my picture). 87023Velocity
Managed to progress the Dapol class 142 which is being resprayed into North Western Trains blue and gold. Got the main body colours done and tonight attempted masking the area for the star and roof stripe. Quite happy with the end result, will look better once doors and glazing is refitted. The blue does look quite bright in the picture, trick of the camera. It will tone down with some matt varnish. Cheers Simon 14 2
RMweb Premium MrSimon Posted November 22, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 22, 2021 Hi Simon Love that you’re doing this livery - top of my wish list! Really impressive bit of masking there, can wait to see it completed Keep up the good work! Simon
87023Velocity
Managed to get the other stars and stripe applied last night. Just a few areas to touch up along with the destination panel which still needs painting black. Here is a picture showing tonights progress and also paired with a GMPTE liveried 142. Will look better when doors and glazing fitted. Cheers Simon 16

87023Velocity
Tonight's focus has been the class 37 respray into 37520. The gold band has been airbrushed on, transfers for the number and EWS logo have arrived from Railtec. This model started out as Farish 37506 in Redstripe Railfreight hence the red bufferbeam which will be painted black. Just got the thin gold stripe to add along the bottom of the bodyside along with painting the radiator grill black. Cheers Simon

Cheers Simon Hello Simon, Did you take the Railfreight painted loco right back to base plastic before beginning your EWS respray, please ? If so what product do you use ? IPA ? (apologies if this has already been mentioned earlier in the thread.) I am missing a couple of livery variants from my West Highland cl.37 stud, chiefly Inter City / Mainline and EWS, so resprays may be my quickest route considering the current long lead times even if Farish decided to produce these versions. Your model is looking good to me so far. Regards, Ian.

Popular Post 87023Velocity
Had a running session yesterday, was planning on some modelling but it was too cold. Hopefully if can get the heat up in the garage, the 142 may get ready for transfers this week! Edited November 28, 2021 by 87023Velocity
87023Velocity
Evening, now the temperature has gone up slightly and with the aid of a heater, managed to progress 37520 a bit more. The radiator grill has been sprayed black and the yellow/gold stripe sprayed onto the lower bodyside. Next step will be gloss varnish. Cheers Simon
87023Velocity
Following on from 37520, the First North Western 142 in blue with gold stars has had a coat of varnish in readiness for applying the transfers. The doors have been sprayed seperately to the main body as it makes masking easier, the gold star extends onto the doors at the cab end. Transfers are from Precision and Railtec (using the Railtec sheet for alot of the warning logos). 8
87023Velocity
A spare few hours this afternoon allowed the transfers to be applied to one of the class 142 vehicles, some of them are extremely small, warning signs in the bottom corners of the doors, small warning signs above the door pushbuttons. The vehicle/unit numbers and FNW logos are Precision Labels. The warning signs, door pushbuttons, cantrail stripe are Railtec. Steadfast
Hi Simon, Nice work on the FNW pacer. I've got a soft spot for one of the FGW ones that had the gold stars but with pink doors and FGW branding. Too far west and out of period really, but well... I'll have to keep an eye out for a cheapy, what are they like to strip down? Jo 1

Jo Hi Jo, Thanks Regards stripping them down, once the cab/lighting unit is removed (this bit can be tricky), the glazing, doors etc are easy to remove. You could leave the NRN aerials on, I removed them just to ensure no old paint was trapped in the gap. Cheers Simon

Popular Post 87023Velocity
The FNW Blue and Gold class 142 respray is now basically complete. I have left the cab/lighting units out for the minute as going to fit traincrew. Cheers Simon 19
