manna
G'Day Folks After a two second walk to the shed, I restarted work on the station, temp jumped up to 19c today, so it's jumped up a bit. Some greenery was laid, and a couple of cheap trees, and hedges, to give a bit of life, Ticket office has had it's barge boards fitted, ( I think they are a bit big), I cam always get the chisel out! manna

manna
G'Day Folks Well the bargeboards have been thinned, and look a lot better, while I was pottering around the area, a bit of picket fence was erected and a gas lamp by the ticket office, three more along the platform, the gas lamps must be nearly 50 years old, but I have some powered ones that will be fitted later. A J39 from Stratford shed has bought a couple of parcels vans to Edgware and a J6 is caught trundling a short goods through Edgwarebury & Watling Pk. manna

manna
G'Day Folks Today I ran a few trains..............just to be different, hardly run it in the last month. First up an Ancient J4 4040, has been entrusted with the 1839, Edgware - Kings Cross, empty parcels vans. Next up J52 4279 heads to London Colney, to shunt the Jam Factory. manna

manna
G'Day Folks Hi Mike, I do have a couple of LMS loco's, which I do intend to finish 'one' day, I must get myself some transfers, I'll take some pics today. Here they are, a Stanier 4mt, 8f body, Fowler 4mt chassis, and a Hornby 2p tender !! The a Fowler 4f, sitting on a Hornby 0-6-0 chassis, 3f tender (new wheels) The a basic 3f. manna
G'Day Folks Very slow progress on the J1, but still progress,so while glue was drying or I was trying to solve a small problem, I turned to something else, a couple of dozen coal wagons had coal loads made and fitted, a couple of ballast wagons and a sand wagon. A sand/ballast bin was made. manna
manna
G'Day Folks I have been working on a set of Midland coaches ( Ratio) as the LMS used to run trains up to Edgware, ( Ex North London Railway) as I'd have to build them, I've used these instead, they look the part. But I need a LMS 'Jinty' any excuse.. Engineering trains been running again........ manna
RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted October 7, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 7, 2020 That Jinty looks like it’s had a bit of work. Looks nice in crimson!
manna
G'Day Folks I bought the loco off of E-Bay, wanting the chassis (Wrenn R1, with Romfords), but I will admit I like the loco, so I'm going to fit a Hornby chassis later. manna
hayfield
I must admit to buying either locos or kits and using the (additional ) components, then selling on the kit or parts I don't require. When a new set of Markit wheels will set you back £45 its surprising how cheaply items can be bought Hopefully today a NuCast unbuilt 16xx will arrive with a set of (modern Romford) wheels which cost me £66 inc postage, Similar whitemetal kits now cost £90 plus £45 for the wheels. And to be quite honest this is at the top end of what I am willing to pay
manna
G'Day Folks Not a lot done on the Layout, but another loco has taken to the rails, a C12, here she is at Edgwarebury. Still a few bits to do on her, Trying to get the second C12 running. manna
manna
G'Day Folks Second C12 is now running, but still needs finishing, coupling rods, need attaching and the paint also needs touching up. My sons Christmas present a 'Thumper' unit is nearing completion, just the numbers etc. to go. Also a couple of J39's one of which has been sidelined for a good few years after I pinched the chassis for another project, the green wheels need painting. manna
KingArthur453
Hi Manna. I don't know how I've managed to miss your blog for so long. I've just read the whole thing in one go and it's fascinating seeing how the layout has developed over the years. I've always wondered why no-one has modelled Edgware or Barnet and all the time you've been at it. Yoe may know this and if so I apologise but the very first edition of 'British Railways Illustrated Annual' back in the 90s had an excellent and well illustrated article covering all the Northern Heights branches. It was written by one K. Coventry and had track plans for most, if not all, the stations. I recommend it to you as it's full of information for anyone interested in these lines. If you've not seen it you might be able to get hold of one on Ebay or a specialist bookseller. One edition of the free LT Underground maps, published shortly before the war, showed the whole Northern Heights network and the Elstree South extension as part of the Northern Line although it was marked in hatched lines representing "Under construction". I grew up in Middlesex, very close to the 'Northern Heights' area. If you stand in certain local vantage points on a clear day the views, even today, will show you why the area was so called. My mother moved to the area in 1928 when she was 5. It was being 'developed' at that time but still quite rural and even in the 60s I passed thatched cottages every day (in London NW9) when I cycled to school. She could remember the night the Crystal Palace burnt down and because the area was high enough they were able to see the glow in the sky 15 or more miles away. When I was 11 and 12 a regular summer evening escapade with another train and bus spotting friend was to cycle over to either Colindale trolleybus scrapyard or to Edgware goods yard. I can't now remember how we got in to either place but of course there was no security then. We spent ages messing about on the old trolleys or pulling point levers and clambering over goods wagons. By the by, shouldn't your bus be an STL, rather than an RT, which didn't enter service until after the war? The blog has brought back many memories. Great stuff mate. 1

G'Day KA453 Thank you for your kind reply, I also come from North London, (Wood Green) but never saw Edgware in it's heyday ?? my biking experiences usually involved Hadley Wood (watching trains) or 'Ally Pally', Muswell Hill or Highgate. Noel Park goods yard was our preferred 'playground'. I picked Edgware as it was GN, it was in North London, and single track makes it interesting to operate. Like many I'm over stocked, but it does give plenty of verity. manna Edited November 1, 2020 by manna
manna
G'day Folks KA453, I didn't know about the Trains Illustrated article, I'll keep and eye open for that on E-Bay, Thank you. manna
manna
G'Day Folks A goods fest to-day, O1, O2, O4 and a overloaded J3. A couple of loco's are missing their LNER's on the tender, I've run out, but more are on the way. manna
KingArthur453
Hi Manna I came from Kingsbury Green and my usual haunts were Willesden and Old Oak and less often to Waterloo and the Southern sheds, which were very difficult to get into. On the very few occasions in 1961 that I could manage to scrounge the half-a-crown for a Red Rover, Wood Green depot was a stop on trolleybus excursions. I think you must be one of the very few modellers who can double-head a train with a pair of Ivatt 4-42Ts!
manna
G'Day Folks Very happy with the pair of Atlantic tanks, luckily both were allocated to the Kings Cross- Hitchin- Hornsey area. Tonight (Oz time), back to the goods, Q1 0-8-0 heads a brick train towards Edgware, and small Atlantic also heads that way with the Milk, seen passing 'The Hales' goods yard. manna
manna
G'Day Folks Few shots from the latest operating session. The P1 is running but not as well as I had hoped, more adjustments to the pick ups. A4 'Sea Eagle' was a rare visitor. A Trix body on a Triang chassis, runs well for it's age. Also B17 2822, a tender driven short tender version, runs past Edgware. J6 3550, has a break after a short trip working from Highbury yard And lastly Sentinal trundles it's way to Edgware. manna
