This film is a re-edit of a combination of some scenes made a while ago with new ones. The new ones are continuations of the original scenes, extending their stories beyond what was produced before.
The reason for this run of hybrid films is to give me a chance to learn the new techniques for producing content which combines the model and real world together. A simple straight forward production takes me about 1 hour to produce 1 minute of video,  but this technique takes 3 times that. Using previous footage gives me more time for practicing the post production.
A Class 25 leaves the MPD at the north end of Trenholme Junction and heads for the north carriage sidings where she picks up a rake of ex LMS and exGWR coaches and places them in Platform 5 ready for loading.
Standard class 5MT 4-6-0 73158 with a parcels train enters the junction at the north end on the goods line and traverses the the ladder and passes the Lower East Station without stopping and then proceeds to the mail/goods station at the Main Station, pausing to load, and then leaves via the tunnel.
The Class 25 and its now loaded train leaves the north end of the junction.
Finally, in the lower Marshalling Yard, the 08 Shunter D3963 takes over from Class 47 D1916 and removes the breakdown train from the reception/departure road and places it in the sidings, awaiting its inevitable next turn of duty.

In this film the 08 Shunter is on Station Pilot duty at the Main Station at Trenholme Junction.

The recently arrived passenger train headed by Deltic D9004 is terminating the service here. The Deltic uncouples from the train and makes it way to the Deisel Shed.

A DMU passes by and makes its way to the Lower East station on a local service.

The Shunter pushes the passenger stock into the South Carriage Sidings.

An ex-GWR tank locomotive with a train of mineral wagons ambles by on the goods lines.

The Shunter then removes suburban stock from the North Carriage Sidings and places them into platform 5.

Finally, a 4-car DMU leaves the North Station and travels to the Main Station.

This is a hybrid film, using previously released footage and new scenes with sky background added.

The class 31 and its short two coach local service departs the Main Station and gently stops at the Lower East Station.

D1916 Class 47 moves from the reception road towards the Diesel Shed and awaits at the crossover.

A class 15 arrives from the same direction with a mixed goods train and comes to a halt in the reception/departure road at the Main Marshalling Yard.

The local service departs the Lower East Station and heads north and D1916 completes its journey to the Diesel Shed to await its next turn of duty.

Trenholme Junction is a model railway set in the North East of England in the early 1960's. Its a project to show what the railways in the UK looked like before they were decimated.

In this this film, a Black 5 hauls a train of bulk grain wagons, no doubt returning from the distillery's in Scotland, through the station avoidance road and crossing the Junction at the North End, passing the Lower Marshalling Yard and pausing at the station whilst a fish train traverses the South Junction before continuing on its way.

This is followed on the goods tracks by an 'out of the area' Prairie Tank with some vans which it delivers to the reception road before heading back with its Guards Van.

The Standard Class and its train of fish vans continues its journey through the junction and off to some far off place. Back at the Lower Marshalling Yard the Class 15 detaches itself from the mixed goods train it brought in earlier and runs round to the loco road.

The Class 08 Shunter first couples up to the mixed goods train and then pushes onto vans and then pulls the whole train forward into the headshunt.

Meanwhile, a tanker train headed by a Super D G2A passes through the North End station and drifts down the long incline and crosses the south end of the junction.

Finally the 08 places its train into two sidings in the marshalling yard.

Standard Class 73082 heads towards the Lower Marshalling Yard with a train of empty mineral wagons and pauses adjacent to the Diesel Shed while a Crab with a southbound express passes.

The Standard then crosses all the main running lines and draws to a halt in the reception/dispatch road at the marshalling yard. Once uncoupled from its train, the locomotive moves forward to join the Class 15 diesel to await its next turn of duty.

The two car Diesel Multiple Unit eases out from the station bay platform and picks its way through the crossovers and heads north through the junction.

The 08 shunter removes the brake and utility vans from the recently arrived trains and moves them to the headshunt.

Finally, 73082 reverses onto the train of vans and heads off south.

This film opens with a Stanier rushing from the south to north through Trenholme Junction with an express, followed by a Class 20 with a couple of parcels vans. The class 20 deposits the vans into the station bay platform, and continues its journey, also heading to the Diesel Depot.

The class 15 ventures into the marshalling yard and pulls a number of wagons forward in preparation for sorting into new train.

The 08 runs around its short train and shunts the parcels van into the station bay platform with the two previously left by the class 20.

Finally, an ex GWR Hall passes rapidly from north to south with a train of 6 wheel milk tanks.

Continuing the sequence of Watching films we open this one with a grubby black 5 on a short tanker train heading through Trenholme Junction from South to North past the Lower East Station and Lower Marshalling Yard.

Once cleared through the 08 Shunter heads off from the Station bay Platform and traverses the Main Lines and into the Marshalling Yard headshunt where it picks up its brake van and moves off into the Loco Spur.

The Class 16 sets off, after waiting patiently for a clear road to pull out of the siding with a mixed goods rake of wagons. The task is to remove the tankers from the rake and make up a new train. After several movements, the empty tanker train is completed with a brake van and heads south from the yard.

Whilst the sun is shining and I have grass to cut and things to paint, this is time to show some films which take a little less of my 'spare' time.

In keeping with the season, grey skies have cleared and the sun is shining at Trenholme Junction, although there is a breeze.

A Class 47 enters the junction at the southern end with a train of bulk grain and bogie well wagons and gently passes through to the northern end.

Whilst the sun is shining and I have grass to cut and things to paint, this is time to show some films which take a little less of my 'spare' time.

Its a breezy sunny day with fluffy clouds.

In this film a 9F guides a train of container wagons from north to south through the junction, slowing down through the speed restriction at the Lower Marshalling Yard.

Although Trenholme Junction depicts a main line junction in the 1960's, all main line stations are connected to all the other routes which radiate from them to by both main line and suburban lines.

In this film a steam hauled passenger train sets off from the Lower East Station bay platform and calls at the Main Station, North Station and finally terminates the service at the Upper East Station.

The part of the film made passing through the Main Station was made some time ago and the parts at the beginning and the end have been made this week.

The film also shows how the 'infinite layout' principle works, where the train leaves the lower level into a tunnel and then emerges at another unconnected tunnel on the upper level.

There is also some experimentation of uses backgrounds as well as sky.

Whilst the sun is shining and I have grass to cut and things to paint, this is time to show another film which take a little less of my 'spare' time.

Its a miserable day with rain threatening clouds looming overhead.

A Black Five tackles the long gradient with a train of empty mineral wagons . An exercise blending together model and real worlds.

  • 2 weeks later...

All the summer jobs need to be attended to, so, showing another short film which take a little less of my 'spare' time.

This is another experimental exercise using different techniques to blend the model and the real world.

A Class 47 enters the Main Station at the north end of Trenholme Junction and passes through the west passenger platform with a train of empty 21 ton hopper wagons and leaves by the south tunnel.

A short video showing a Class 31 passing from north to south through Trenholme Junction with non-stop passenger train.

The video is shown twice to show how different backgrounds have a dramatic effect.

If enough enough people are interested in how to produce these effects, I may make a video to show how its done. Please leave a request note in the comments.

During these, the summer months, this is a remake of a scene from an earlier video which was produced in letterbox format in order to eliminate the lights and ceiling in the train shed.

In this version, the walls and ceiling has been replaced by using a video editor and special effects to merge a video of real sky with the original video of the model and uses the full size frame.

70082 'Firth of Tay' smoothly glides through Trenholme Junction from north to south, with a train of 12 parcels and mail coach vehicles.
