Some more at Manchester Piccadilly for today.  The weather seems to have been a typical dull Friday afternoon in December - probably at the end of the University term.

Later today I'll start another thread with assorted colour photos.

Some more great shots, thanks.  I like the ones at Cadeby, we used to have regular club visits there as one of our members was a good friend of Teddy's.  I remember sitting inside the hill on the OO layout trying to maintain the timetable, Teddy was very insistent on that!

And High Dyke - I recognised that from Roy Jackson's (and friends!) layout!

Time now for this evening's batch.  We are back at Manchester Piccadilly for some slightly "different" images.

Edit - my notes say February but judging by the lightness of the sky and the time (6pm) it could have been March.  I remember having to rest my camera on anything that was handy to avoid camera shake.

This evening we come to the end of this thread, I hope you've enjoyed it.

The other 800 or so of my black and white negatives were sold some years ago, they appear from time to time in books and magazines, captioned as part of whichever collection they are now in, not under my name.

In June 1969 a group of us hired a croft near Loch Ness for a week after the University term ended, I decided to take some slide film with me and after that used colour slide film for all my railway photography.  Just to complete the thread I am putting on my first colour railway photo as well.

Definitely Glazebrook - Glazebrook East Junction (BR version) signal box is visible to the left of the line. The yard is visible to the right and the line to Cadishead and on to Skelton Junction curves away in front of the sidings.

The (rear view of) signal on the right is Glazebrook East starter with Glazebrook West Junction distant below.

LNWR at Glazebrook ? Glazebury ?

Edit - yes, Glazebury.

Thanks for the information.

I've just looked it up on Google Earth too.  The pubs still there but the bridge has changed a bit and could do with a coat of paint.

I've no idea why I typed Glazebrook, must have been thinking of the previous photo.  I have to admit I've not been back there since.

You may be right with your original note  - Britain remained on BST for the period October 1968 - October 1971.

and thanks for posting all the excellent photos on your various threads

Thanks for reminding me of that - I remember those dark mornings - even at the normal student getting out of bed time it was still dark!

Off-topic:

Have to agree with Paul, read Civil Engineering and it was lectures from 9am to noon or 1pm and then lab work from 2pm to 5pm with the exception of Wednesday afternoon, which I believe was to allow students to participate in sporting activities...

I seem to recall it was my Accountancy and Law contemporaries that had somewhat lighter lecture schedules, plus the Arts faculty students :-)

On-topic:

Always enjoy looking at these pictures, most of which pre-date me.

I read Electrical Engineering; up at the crack of dawn with a day full of lectures until 5pm!! Free time, yes I rember that on Wednesday afternoons, when all students had a half day off!!

Goes into Monty Python mode:  You were lucky, we lived in a paper bag in hole at the back of students' union building.....  :jester:

Great photos as always Dave.

I read Biology, officially most days it was 9.30am (sometimes 10am) until 5pm, but in practice it was often quite a bit less - especially if you were quick and accurate with practical work.

Just a post to check this thread still exists - no new photos to add at present though I did come across a few prints I had lost recently - I still need to check if I have used them before - when I get time.

If I haven't used them they will get posted in due course
