Cheers

Ben A.

Have good time there this weekend.

We did last year.

It's also a superb building architecturally plus all those good pubs nearby.

I am visiting tomorrow and looking forward to it. I will have the little one in tow. Please do not be offended if she looks at your layout and says "Urgh" - she does that whenever she sees a diesel!

New Bryford set up and almosr ready to roll. Just a few minor jobs to do Saturday morning. The new KFA rake has had a run round with 56094 at the front.

Cheers,

Mick

Great display of layouts as ever, managed to catch up with many friends that have exhibited there layouts at the Stafford Exhibition over the years, good to have a natter.

I did however manage to keep the wallet secure not even a pint, as the bar was closed (if you come to the 7mm narrow gauge association AGM & Exhibition on the 14th June at the same venue I am promised real ale)

Hope the exhibition goes ok tomorrow and that all the mains leads return to Stafford Railway Circle clubrooms on Tuesday evening.

Excellent show, the sausage & bacon baps were good too :) BCB and the rest were great, but my personal highlight was finally seeing Glenuig in the flesh. Only surprise was the lack of trade for track and scatter grass materials or trees with only a couple carrying anything at all. That's just what the traders decided to bring though so no criticism of the show. The dcc, books and specialist bits and parts were well represented though.

Well recommended if you're free tomorrow :)

Glad you enjoyed it Paul. Had a great day at the show, and back again tomorrow for more of the same, and lets hope the god of sprat and winkle will be good to the folks of Glenuig!

Enjoyed the show - a good choice of layouts with BCB, Glenuig and New Bryford being the pick of the bunch for me. Great to see Tornado fly the flag for steam on New Bryford.  The layout looked as good as ever and certainly entertained my little girl longer than any of the others.

One small criticism - I do feel that £8.00 is a little bit on the steep side for entry especially as, with parking costs on top, the visit can reach almost a tenner before you even reach the trade. This is expensive when compared to some much larger shows in the local area. That being said this event does feature a free show guide which is full colour and one of the best I have ever seen.

 I would definitely recommend however.

Really enjoyed the show and I especially enjoyed watching Glenuig and seeing Black Country Blues again.  The food was good but the eating area could have done with a few more tables and seats.

I stopped off at Derby on the way back to Sheffield to visit the Famous Trains Model Railway in Markeaton Park.  It’s an impressive project in its very early stages with a lot achieved in a short time.  Well worth the £1 entry donation if ever you pass by on a Saturday or Sunday.

An excellent show.  The first time I've been to DEMU Showcase but I'm sure it'll be a regular in my diary now.

A few photos to whet the appetite of those planning to go tomorrow, or show what was on offer to those who, for whatever reason, can't make it.

It is one of the few shows on my "unmissable" list, although childcare arrangements have prevented me from visiting this year. But as any show with a specialist or niche theme that has managed to fill the venue with different layouts every year that have been sourced from all around the country, I think the entrance fee represents excellent value.

I accept what you are saying, just stating that if you compare its £8 price to other shows it is more expensive than Derby Moorways which had more than twice the number of layouts and exhibitors. Stafford was not much more and it had three times the number of exhibits. No complaints on the quality of the show, and the free guide was of a very high quality so that balanced things a little.

I suppose the entrance charge buys you different things. Last week I was at Aylesbury and £8 bought me a big venue, several huge 'big ticket' layouts and the modelling bar set very high indeed.

Today, £8 bought me a venue with a much lower density of people, no barriers, multiple layouts from Scotland, and generally very high standards of modelling also. Parking right outside the venue, and a lovely programme included.

I think both justified the same money with different offerings. It is late and I can't offer a full review of the show, save to note that in that last quiet hour or so this afternoon I was able to take my wife and two under-twos round the exhibition in peace, without fearing or causing trouble! That makes a big difference to the viability of the whole thing for me. As a result, DEMU took £16 off me, which I was quite content with, because whereas last week Mrs J went off to Bicester Village, today we came as a family.

What I might suggest though is that at £16 for two adults, I think you are reaching the ceiling for a family with children - not least because even with Thomas Ivor (nearly 6), I am less likely to stay for anywhere near as long as other visitors to the exhibition and have to break the cost down accordingly! We stayed less than two hours, including a refreshment break, and that was our limit in all fairness.

I hope the exhibitors, organisers and indeed traders appreciate the value of an exhibition being open such as to have those 'quiet times' - because some will come for that, who might otherwise find it all a bit too much - be they elderly, disabled or visitors with little ones. It was great to be able to watch 'BCB' from eight or ten feet away from the layout - really nice.

Great show as ever, guys - thank you very much. Just a shame Thomas Ivor not only missed it but had the promise of being taken to Exeter withdrawn at the last moment. Hopefully he will be back next year, to savour Mr Eames' masterpiece whilst Daddy waxes lyrical about the Burton he knew as a boy...

That's fair enough comment, Andy, I understand your thinking but I was at Derby this year (again, for the last couple of hours) and I walked past half the layouts, because it is a broader church. Not a criticism of Derby, (although I do feel it was a little off the old days at the Assembly Rooms - maybe that's just me ageing and thinking things were bigger and better when I was a youngster!) since they are different kinds of exhibitions. I have done a good number lately and the only time I recall having felt like I had paid a lot to get in, for what was inside, was at Peterborough.

As the guy who pays the bills for the Derby show I can tell you that if we were still using that venue we would have to charge about double the Moorways admission to cover our costs.

By coincidence, I am also involved as one of the organisers of the 7mm Narrow Gauge Assn exhibition at Burton Town Hall in two weeks time (as already noted in one of the posts above, we will have the bar open!). It's only in the last 3 years that the Council have started charging for the car park because it is so close to the station. However the road side restrictions in some of the side streets only apply Monday to Friday and we find that many of our visitors can find a space within a short walk at no cost.
