I hope mine looks half as good, the P2 is going to be epic, did they ever go to the WHR? Congrats on your 100th post.

ScR

Cheers. No the P2 is an irresistible diversion that'll probably just sit on a shelf. I've been visiting West Highland stations today to take a few photos, so the mojo is fully restocked for when I get home.

Well, the summer is passing & the mojo is returning. First job is to finish K4 number 3, set to be No. 3445 MacCailin Mor in Apple Green.

Boiler mainly done here, with handrail knobs fitted but smokebox door just bluetacked on for the picture. The chassis is waiting for it's donor Hornby L1 wheels to be fitted.

Hi Gary, thanks for looking in.

I look forward to seeing your K4! I'm a bit sick of the sight of them now having done 3 & am looking forward to getting on with the NB 0-6-0 types that you have done so well.

I've had a rethink on the layout & I'm now doing Fort William. I was reading one of my West Highland books & the operation of the station seemed quite interesting with the cramped layout & the J36 pilots shuffling round, it should give me a bit more activity than the passing stations & be easier to fit in the loft as well. Only 2 turnouts to build too!

Cheers

I take it you have Ian Futer's book on modelling scottish prototypes?  There are two in the series and the first has a full set of drawings of Fort Bill's station building.

I do indeed Mark. I'm currently drawing up the plans on the computer so I can print a cardboard mockup to help me get my head around how to build the thing.

Cheers

Question, i was at thd glasgow show and got hold of a k3 with the correct tender to do a thornton allocated k4. However i couldn't find a Hornby b17 boiler, without looking at drawings i think the b17 and b1 boilers were similar, would a b1 boiler do the job.

Well, after a long time with no modelling mojo to speak of, I was minding my own business when suddenly I go the urge to cut, glue, solder, paint & generally start making a mess again.

I've mostly been making a start on my Fort William layout, but yesterday I just fancied starting the resin K2 kit I bought from Graeme King many moons ago. So here is the (soon to be christened) 'Loch Lomond'. The resin kit went together very nicely with a 'Scottish' cab I pinched from an unbuilt nucast K2 kit

Posing with a nucast tender for now after a productive Sunday & I built up courage for the valve gear mods.

By the way if anyone has any spare K2 side window cabs lying around I could use at least 2 to save me having to scratchbuild!

A couple of fish vans been constructed from a couple of Nucast 12ft wheelbase kits bought from the Preston show in March. Not much fun compared to the Parkside version. The one on the left is built as the instructions with all its frustrations in 12ft form. The next night I furiously attacked the 2nd with a knife & cut it down to the 10ft wheelbase version (more suitable for my era too really). I’ll stick to parkside kits in future.

Hi all,

A brief update from the West Highland bench.

The 3500 gallon tender had the sides shaped & the beading added from microstrip

all trimmed up & ready for a dust of primer & then sanding/filling the inevitable imperfections

I made a start on the K4 mk3 running plate from brass/nickel silver.

It's not perfect but I'm quite pleased with it for a first attempt.

And 2 J39s ended the shop for painting & numbering. I picked numbers I'd seen  pictures in my West Highland books & found they were both Eastfield engines from 1932 until 1943, and were also J39/2s with the 4200 gallon tender which makes life a bit easier as they're available RTR.

I need to find another tender (the low fronted version - can anyone help?), then I'm ready to weather them together.

Thanks for looking in.

I have had a bash at doing the same cut and shut with a Dapol N gauge Group standard chassis and had an ok result. I made a boob with the body though and cut it in the middle to shorten in. Next time I'll use the same method you have with doing it from the rear.
