Thanks Downendian!

Always liked Hymeks in green, blue seemed drab.

As for maroon...

Sorry if people think I'm a heathen, but I quite like them in maroon!

PS I think it's better than blue.

I believe that's D7020 Neil, not D7025. There are several pictures of it on the Swindon scrap line, with D6323 next in line.

Regards

Mike

Mike - I think you are indeed right! Rust is obscuring the final zero.

Unless I have missed it, a book which does not get a mention in this thread : A Tribute to the Hymeks. Author : Chris Neill. Publisher :A&C Services. ISBN I-904285-03-1.

Apart from front and rear covers in colour, all b/w content.Lots of works history, livery details, and some fascinating info on the last workings of each loco.

The author's intro is dated May 2003,so chances are the book will be hard to track down.

Pretty sure 7041 was never BSYP.

I made a list of Hymek liveries some time ago, though I didn't keep a note of the picture references then.

These are my additions to your list:

GFYE - D7016, 7029, 7075, and 7094

BSYP incl window surrounds - D7010

BSYP with white windows - D7041

I have 13 locos noted as fitted with minature snowploughs at one time or other, including those noted by Mark above.

Edit : I did think D7025 got BFYE, but I think this picture proves that to be false

I have the following as a summary;

1) 7000-19 (not 7018) delivered without panels.
2) Blue without window surrounds 7004/7/51 (7004 later with window surrounds white)
3) Blue with white window surrounds 7010/2/27/34/6/40/6-8/52/6/7/9/64.
4) GFYE. 7000/9/13/4/6/8/20/3/31/75/84/92-4/7.
5) Scrapped in GSYP 7002/3/5/6/8/21/4/5/54/60
6) Scrapped GFYE 7013/4/20
7)Scrapped BHYP 7007/51 (no surrounds) 7010/34/6/40/6/7/52/6/7/9

I think this is accurate but any updates welcomed. 7045 is often listed as BHYP but I don't think so.

I've somehow missed this thread- I've spent a lot of time researching Hymek liveries (I intend to publish a book one day for the Hydraulic modeller).

This was put on the Modellersunited website by me, - I don't belong to that forum any more so I'll post it here as well for any discussions.

The livery variants were largely relating to the lifetime of the locomotives, and evolved gradually alongside BR corporate policy. The first Hymeks (D7000-D7019) were delivered in overall BR (Brunswick) green, with lime green skirts, but from D7020 onwards were delivered with small yellow panels on their cabs.

From the late 1960s, the half yellow panel was converted to the full yellow ends – including (where photographic evidence provides direct proof) D7000, D7009, D7013; D7014; D7016, D7018, D7020, D7023; D7031; D7084; D7092; D7093; D7094; D7097. With the beginning of BR corporate (or rail) blue from 1966, some Hymeks received the intermediate or “Swindon” blue with small yellow panel. The best photograph of this livery that I have seen is on the front cover of the Modern Railways profile (cited earlier) (and provided here from my collection). It is a stunning shot of D7036 in this livery at Hereford. The earliest version of this livery included a literal interpretation by Swindon works to include painting the window surrounds as well – this was done on at least D7004, D7007 and D7051.

Most Hymek casualties had occurred during a mass cull in 1971 and 1972, and as a consequence many were never painted into standard BR blue. The following locomotives went to the scrapyard without receiving the full BR blue livery:

Green with half-yellow panel: D7002; D7003; D7005; D7006; D7008; D7021; D7024; D7025; D7054 (in 1974!); D7060

Green with full yellow ends: D7013; D7014; D7020;

Blue with small yellow panel: D7010; D7034; D7036; D7040; D7046; D7047; D7052; D7056; D7057; D7059

Other Meks to carry the blue small yellow panel livery (with white window surrounds) but were later amended to a full yellow end include:

D7004; D7012; D7027; D7048; D7064 and (possibly) D7086.

If anyone has any evidence to refute the above I'd be very happy to hear from them!

Edit 27/8/16 a photo of D7025 in GFYE at Swindon con yard has emerged, changed thus scrapped GSYP to GFYE. edit edit D7025 was in fact D7020

Edit 28/8/16 D7018 to GFYE list - thanks Stovepipe

best wishes

Neil

Hi Russell

This is essentially identical to my post of almost 4 years ago, which I have evolved thanks to subsequent posts.

The only difference I can see is that in your list D7018 was delivered with yellow panel. Have you seen a photo of this as I would be interested? You have also D7051 in the BSYP list and the yellow panel and blue window surrounds list, which the latter you rightly mention was as scrapped. It never had white window surrounds.

Yes I realised this earlier today. I've even got a shot of 7051 in the scrapline minus the white window surrounds.

7018 I meant to read that the list without panels is often quoted as 7000-18 but in fact it is 7000-19, I can see the confusion, sorry. 7018 was NOT delivered with panels.

I have some doubt as to 7075 being GFYE, does anyone have a shot?

Hi Russell

Glad our lists tally, no I haven't ever heard that D7075 was GFYE, will have a bit of a search.

Edit was discussed in this post

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/78107-complete-list-of-hymek-liveries/?p=1497770

I'm pretty certain it never carried full yellow ends whilst in green.

Good afternoon, I have a query on a Hymek livery, I am not sure if it is a figment of my imagination, or my eyes playing a trick on me, but did any blue liveried Hymeks have the BR Lion & Wheel emblem on its bodyside instead of the BR double arrow logo ?

I am sure I saw one on the web but can't seem to dig it up again, or it may have a been a filthy 2 tone green version but possibly looked blue because of the colour contrast on the picture.

Thanks in advance

Craig.

Long answer Craig - definitely not, short answer - no!

In some grainy b&w images or colour shots with an odd cast to them it may appear that a loco is in BSYP livery with the lion and wheel under the much but none were ever painted as such at Swindon.

Hi Craig

I have a photo in my collection (not my copyright so can't post), of a blue full yellow end hymek with the lion and wheel emblem clearly visible where the blue paint has worn away, and yes it had BR arrows too. As Nidge says this wasn't done deliberately however. I've seen Heljan models in blue however where someone has added a BR lion and wheel totem, but unprototypically.

I've never seen a picture of D7019 without a Yellow panel. Entering traffic on 14/02/62 would mean it would of almost certainly had one applied, have you got evidence that it did or didn't?

D7021 entered same day as D7019.

D7020 and D7021 travelled Down from BP to SDN together on 02/02/62 but D7020 entered 08/02/62.

D7018 arrived at Swindon 10/01/62 GNY and went into traffic 17/01/62. On 20/01/62 it was stopped at BTL with a defective transmission, went into SDN 24/01/62 for a trans. change and was released 31/01/62 in GSY. So it was about for less than a week in GNY.

7019, yes somewhere. I think in the Adrian Curtis mags,

I'm unaware of D7041 ever carrying blue small yellow livery - it was blue full yellow at the May 1969 St Blazey Open Day (which I missed for some reason, despite living around 20 miles down the road!), not that this proves anything of course - D7004 had carried all 3 variations of blue livery by July 1967! (In fact the only scheme this one never received was green full yellow - 5 out of 6, a remarkable feat considering D7021/24/25/54/60 only ever managed one!!)
