How do the stop the coal falling out the joins?

It seems that they didn't, or at least not very well. It also had a nasty habit of freezing up entirely during the winter months.

The centre wheels ............. looks like they're on some sort of a cross-slide but won't accommodate much of a change of gradient without doing 'interesting' things to the axle loads !

Much like the Cleminson vehicles on the NWNGR.

Cheers

Can't afford the new high fidelity APT?  Why not go halves with a mate?

RAIL - DIESEL - CLASS 25 HAULING A FAILED APT UNIT - TILTING MECHANISM - DATE AND LOCATION UNKNOWN

I note the flickr pic doesn't have any location/date, but I saw a similar (if not the same) formation through Clitheroe one late night - it had come southbound on the S&C

It was meant to be a sign to the nearest international airport, but it was specified over a crackly phone line, and the sign department order taker was also moonlighting in one of those Aussie pubs, so it was misunderstood.

It's a little known fact that Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is actually Welsh for I don't know.

I did add this elsewhere but think it probably needs to be here too;

Want to justify 2 large scissor crossings, a double slip, and as much track as possible on your shunting plank?...

There's no double slip, possibly only a diamond (at least it looks like that on a bigger image)

Or it could be a single slip

Good call, I thought it was a double. If it's a diamond then it would be very interesting to operate, single slip for the bottom 2 tracks possibly...

A lower single slip would give the access/flexibility required, I think the upper slip connection would be superfluous.

Nice find.

Definitely suitable for a model.

But quite some "plank": about 20' long in HO scale.

It's 300m buffer to buffer.

Doesn't that work out at at around 11 feet?

300m/87 x 3.2' = 11' in H0

Or 12' 6" in 00

I could not find a scale measure against the photo. But going on the dimension of the bogie tankers in view (approx. 15m long?), it would be more than 300m. That said, using Peco points or similar would save on length.

Using Google's measurement tool it's 312.7m between the boundary fences at each end.

...or just under 1026 feet = 2.11m in 1:148 scale. Interesting idea for (another) layout...

Careful when you order the shed - that 3.2's a bit on the tight side : it's closer to 3.3 ! ( 3.28 ish )

That was just the track:)

You need space around it for the rest of the site.
