It can be surprisingly hard to derail a train:

Makes you think that with typically larger than scale flanges and wheel tread we really shouldn't be suffering from derailments with our models.

Compare the wheel diameter to the gap and you would realise apart from a bumpy ride that it's not going to derail.

Now try it on a bend!

Now if they had undone a fishplate and forced the rail sideways............

Not sure where else to put it, this thread seems as good as any. The title ("Saving..."), and the way they handle it don't seem to match... Can't help but think if this had been one of the UK heavy haulage firms, they'd have just lined a trailer up with the track it's on and winched it on board with some bridging track.

Have you ever wished you could run a crazy liveried locomotive on a 1950s steam layout without being subjected to judgmental finger wagging?

You might try one of these specials -

Whilst it took a long time to get to a full derailment, I noticed the train was getting shorter and shorter.... Resistance Fer, the French Resistance's railway branch had a much simpler technique for 'stopping the job'; they would simply let locos run into the turntable well at the rotonde (roundhouse).

Where actually is this - there is a steam loco visible in the distance early on?

Utica Children's Museum which were moving to new premises AFAIK without Adirondack 25

Old location by Utica Station:

Near the station was NYC Switcher 6721, now also gone.

What a bunch of w@nkers, not sure why they seem obsessed with chopping bits out of the pilots

Its obviously not in the best of shape as the motors look to be missing but I can't imagine there are too many RSC2s left so surely worth restoring

Thought it looked familiar-they are the same as the Portuguese Alcos.

To be honest, without knowing the full back story & issues involved, some of the comments on here about this video are about as intelligent as one of the comments on the YouTube post itself, asking why they didn't just 'switch on the engine and drive it?'

Certainly no need to stoop to abusive language.

Yeah - what do you do with anything Christmas related in Tier 4 ?

Our Christmas plan is not affected as it had always been our plan to have Christmas on our own in our own house.  I highly recommend that; instead of the stress of travel and visitors/visiting.

As they keep pointing out on the media - we're social animals and contact helps our mental well-being ....... even after the stress of travel and/or visitors !

I'll probably have a Co-op turkey sandwich for Christmas dinner - then spend the afternoon figuring out how to play Monopoly against myself ................................................... though scanning slides from Kings Cross, Liverpool Street, Marylebone etc. etc. would probably be a better use of time !
