Two HST power cars + 2x Class 91 = 17460bhp! Add in a rake of Mk3 in three different liveries and you end up with this:

Well, almost - HST power cars acting as power on a test train using a pair of class 91 to test OHLE.

Funnily enough I was also going to post this picture of the Hadfield derailment that caused the above incident.

Was this the same derailment as the BOC tanks , or is this the wagons from the one caught on film at Hatfield Station

Well the 76 picture is dated 09/04/81 and the derailment one is dated 21/04/81. And it's Hadfield, Hatfield has had its own rather more devastating derailment though.

Looking at that first coach I think I've just seen the prototype for Hornby's awful rendition of blue/grey on its MK2e TSOs.

IMHO The colour balance on the photo isn't right.

maybe yes, but if you look at what look like a BSO two coaches back the BSO looks close to the correct grey, whereas the TSO is definitely cream-like.

I hope this doesn't offend (will remove if required) but here is a sample with the white balance moved to more blue (higher colour temperature) and slightly brightened:

Notice the first coach colour has changed far more than the third.

I think it the original being so different is a trick of the light source.

But notice how the yellow end of the loco, adjacent, is horribly washed out !

To say nothing of the bricks on the house. For a better view of the train, the adjustment is changing things in the right direction. But for the whole scene, probably not.

Looks to me like it's a fully-fitted freight carrying superfluous side lamps on a superfluous brake van while running wrong line ....... or am I missing something ?

The van isn't fitted or piped so sidelamps required

Around about that time there were some 'odd' renditions on that type of vehicle, not sure why, but I remember seeing them and thinking 'that don't look right'.

I think you'll find the original is right, that is if they are Riviera's vehicles as shown below. Blue and cream was their livery...
