Hi all....due to a lot of interest of a bit of help request for info on exeter central in prototype blog, i thought i would post this build,it is an N gauge layout being built by our club(Junction 72A mrc) of Exeter Central....it is approx 16 feet long and 8 feet wide, baseboards have been made to come apart in 8 sections(for exhibitions) and track has been partially/temporarily laid at this time,as far as i know it will be dcc!...

here are a few pictures......

view looking up through the station (from queen street) showing its 4 mainlines, bays and goods yard track to be laid, new north road bridge(template) can be seen in the distance.

Thanks Bob... Ben,at the moment there are around 4 of us been  track laying and wiring who have the skills but other n gauge members have helped with the boards as required, each member has a different level of knowledge and practical skill which we all try to share and pass on to each other, in all about  a third of the club are n gauge.

Hi Dave

Great idea for a layout.

Are you planning to use DCC and will you be running proper Atlantic Coast Express trains that split / join sections at the stations? An operation just made for DCC and Dapol easy-shunt couplers.

Regards

Nick

Hi Nick, the layout is fully dcc, the main bus is installed and droppers to allow us to run, more  track work is needed on the station sidings, carriage sheds and at some point (long way off) exmouth jcn shed(72A)... the track plan is based on the prototype of exeter central around 1940 ish with a few very minor changes for operational reasons and so we can use off the shelf track(code 80 streamline)... we have used the double cross over...so yes with a coupling change to stock it can be done, i have a full 8 coach rake of br/southern coaches which looked impressive running around and a farish b of b (spitfire) is being chipped as we speak... i am looking forward to the release of dapols new unrebuilt/rebuilt versions for better detail...as more work is completed i will post some more  pics....

Hi all.... here are a few progress pics to date... as you can imagine ,a lot of work...electrics still ongoing, powered using a powercab via an sb5 booster, extra utp panels around the layout allowing the use of extra cabs(cab06),layout has now been separated into block sections to make fault finding easier....scenic work in progress

Dave,

It's looking great, would love to see an update?

Hope all well.

Eddie

Hi Eddie at the moment the layout has been split down for wiring work, we are in the process of fitting point indication and route boards leds and replacing the legs as they were a bit wobbly... I will post more progress pics when it is back together....

Hi Dave,

It's looking impressive! Thanks for posting. What did you use for the scenics on the cutting by the curve before St James's station? I like the autumnal colours.

Cheers

Ben A.
