Hornby 2014 - predictions

I too would like a first generation SR EMU, preferably an ex LSWR 3Sub as lengthened on a 62 foot underframe (same broadly below the floor as the 2Bil) . A Maunsell U1 because it is sufficiently distinct from the N, A Wainwright H, and just to be different an E5000 electric. And my prediction of our likelihood of getting these. Zero percent.

++++ News Flash ++++

Hornby announce they have been taken over by Bachmann. A formal announcement to be made at the Stock Market on opening tomorrow as to how Hornby shareholders are to be integrated into the new BachHorn brand shareholding.

S-15, 94XX, would go down well. An industrial steam loco with plenty of character, and for me an S-160 but thats a specialist want! Operating level crossing, and decent four wheeler coaches.

It would be good to see all the items come out in 2014, or Hornby actually to do a 6 quarter release programme, so that some would be planned to arrive in the first part of 2015 which might help regain faith with delivery dates.

Ahh evolutionary.......got to be something more in dcc. Just as long as they don't forget us Luddites who after a hard day struggling with things digital, like nothing more than to turn the knob on the old controller and watch the trains go round.

Looking forward to the commentary tomorrow. I'm sure it will be the best , because it has been for many years now, and above all is interactive with the additional comments. I often think mags just process a press pack with little in the way of added detail.

No longer just frothing...Utter foaming and dementia....

But in the morn this too will cease and turn into a moaning wake of why aren't Hornby going to make my pet loco........doesn't everyone else in the world want it too.

In the case of Hornby's previous attempted Gresley coaches, that did not come out in Hornby's favour. With their Thompson non-gangwayed stock, it did. With a Quad-Art, I'd curse if they got it wrong again.

I think that's nonsense; their "previous" Gresley coaches were the non-gangwayed Gresleys, which I think pretty much everyone considers to be some of the finest "ordinary" RTR coaching stock yet made. You may be thinking of the gangwayed Gresleys from a few years before that, which had the missing tumblehome (among other issues).

For my money, the Gresley non-gangwayed coaches are even better than the more recent Thompson non-gangwayed stock.

And I would definitely fancy an articulated set of some sort.

There is a meccano advert at the bottom of the page, Hornby announce new development "if its not in our range stop moaning and build your own s*dding locomotive using our new handy range of bits of locomotives, need a Fowler Tender build it yourself, need a Stanier boiler build it yourself. We've everything you'd ever need to build it yourself, create your own wish list, froth away on your own personal site, no more there's nothing here for me, build it your s*dding self"

Ah ha! Maybe the game changer is DC sound!

But they've done that, my first loco was Albert Hall with realistic chuff noise. It had a highly sensitive piece of sandpaper which was rubbed by a metal thingy one of the tender axles producing a highly realistic chuff noise which sped up as the train got faster.

Hornby don't yet know how well the 'Duke of Gloucester' and 'Cock 'o the North' will do. Whilst the Duke has been a popular and impressive performer on the network for some years, neither has anything like the profile of 'Tornado' among the general public.

The P2 has been widely welcomed on this and other enthusiast forums but I am concerned that Hornby's more mainstream buyers may not be similarly impressed until the full sized new-build loco is somewhat more advanced.

Such models have a built in handicap in that there is limited scope for multiple sales other to than to the more "heavy duty" collectors who want each livery variant.

As a result, I will be very surprised if they announce another model of a one-off prototype in the prevailing conditions.

John
