D400
Wasn't sure where to put this but whilst out and about with SWMBO getting festive decorations, spotted these: http://www.wilko.com/indoor-lights/wilko-christmas-tinsel-lights-warm-white-copper-wire-x-2m/invt/0334674 Available in Warm-White and "White-Silver" they seem a very cheap and convenient way to acquire 20 "Micro" LEDs. Not inspected properly yet but each one appears to be between 2mm and 3mm wide and is set in resin to protect it. For £3.50 though its worth a punt? Cheers, Bruce (P.S.: If the mods can think of anywhere better to put this then please move!)
Rumblestripe
Oddly, I was looking at these today and thinking along the same lines. There was loads left (Darlington branch) and they are "already" discounting these to two for a fiver. I reckon that at some point next week they will dump them for a couple of quid a set. xm607
Years ago I bought a pack of early LED lights separated them down to use as platform lighting on my Sheffield Victoria N Gauge layout, take them down to just the led and solder them to brass bars under the platform canopy adding the resistors as required, longer lengths of lead on the LED could be used for lighting buildings. To lessen the glow from the LED paint them with a black wash. Steve.
54Strat
Though not warm white, numerous brands of poundshops do these. I suppose you could paint them cream coloured as they don't get hot, it should be ok.
Pete 75C
Call me tight*, but I usually wait until after Christmas and get them even cheaper... * I heard that.
