After the WiFi issue at Warley I decided to introduce the same redundancy, that the wired throttles give the operation, to the points if I was to lose WiFi between the tablets used as Control panels and the command station. Fortunately the tablets held up under the assault this time ;)

The cobalts have the contacts for push switches so I’ve wired up 27 and mounted them in some 3mm mdf. Now I just need to drill some holes along the back in line with each point so they will be recessed out of the way but easily available if needed.

Working on the basis that if my large digits fit I made a series of 16mm holes and there’s now a line of these along the back of the layout!

And 27 pairs of red wire snaking their way to the contacts on the cobalts :)

Prepping it all takes longer than the installation.

I know just the person you really require to test them!

I didn't notice at Warley but doyou also have track diagrams with turnout numbers on the back of the layout?  We have the diagrams just in case the touch screen gives us grief so that the throttles can be used to change thetturnouts.

There are laminated diagrams with turnout numbers in the box but I they aren't permanently fixed as they would then make it too busy as I already have the Magent locations, Whistle boards and loco identification sheets on the back :) Basically if the tablet fails the laminated diagram replaces them on the small tables I use behind the layout.

Paul

I think this is a marvellous layout and for me it totally evokes the Harz region and those marvellous trains. I was not able ti get to Warley but I wonder where you might be taking it next year so I can watch it and be transported back to happy days spent on the system. Thank you and very well done sir.

Nothing currently booked for the whole layout in 20 but should be at Wimborne in March 21 and provisional invites for 22 & 23.

I’ll post any confirmations in the first post of the thread. Had a load of interest at Warley but that doesn’t always translate into invites ;)

Just picked this up for £20 incl. post via eBay.

Nice selection of pictures and eras of the whole system including a few of the Süd Harz and quite a few new to me, and I’ve got a pretty comprehensive collection now. It also includes a dvd from the end of the DR period, incl SG steam at Gernrode, which has some excellent photography so even without any German it’s well worth it.

Highly recommended.

Was it the only copy they had Paul?

If not, could you pm the link please. With 'Blackmoor (gate)' now under construction my Harz layout will be the next one at some point in 2020.

Already emailed it to you ;)

Have you seen the two volumes of 'Harzer Schmalspur-Spezialitäten', by Otto Kurbjuweit? Paperback, large format, well-illustrated, with quite a bit on the Süd Harz, as well as the Harz itself, and some standard gauge. About £13 each, and available via Amazon.

More wallet busting loveliness appropriate to your pic Ian  ;)

So NWE 13 is 99 5903 which is still around and 5905 was NWE 14 but scrapped in 1975.

Is this a decision then? ;)

Well yes, and a bit awkward. The station layout that has been operable for the last 18 months is a three-through-road thing, and so will need expanding to be Eisfelder Talmühle. This chap has a range of Harz station and town structures, and more to come, so his brochure says.

Steinerne Renne

Schierke (two versions)

Drei Annen Hohne (Q4 2020)

Straßberg

Stiege (4Q 2020)

Alexisbad (2Q 2021)

Multiple town buildings for Wernigerode, including the Westerntor tor. And a couple of RhB items, too.

Not cheap at all, but if I can turn out such a fair model, so can anyone. Almost all of the kit is wood or card. Only window acetate and rainwater goods are plastic. That matters to some people. I only had to paint the rainwater goods.
