new manufacturer in Nm, sit down before you look at the prices! ;)

Thanks to Ulrich for the temptations!

EEK!

Makes the Tillig ones look good value.

I had one of mine out the box a few days ago to pinch the next 18 (non sound) decoder but it hasn't had one installed. I may order a sound decoder for it in the next few days.

I also have two spare board tops off a sheet bought to make end plates. That may tempt me to start my Harz layout.

Ye Gods!!!!

Think I'll stick to my standard gauge TT layout.

Hi Paul,

Out of interest, I notice that the Harz 2-10-2Ts haven't been available from Tillig for a while. Do you happen to have any info on whether there are any plans to reintroduce it to their range, please?

Cheers.

Hi Tim,

There are four currently available, see the green dots on the list here.

https://www.tillig.com/Nenngroesse_H0m_Lokomotiven-Seite-2.html

and MSL are listing them as available with some in stock and others available from Tillig

I’m waiting on news on the Mallets but nothing so far on an EP let alone ready ;)

And those who have been to the Brocken might be interested in this in HO, available later this year.

I have now built two of their stations and find them pretty successful, albeit not cheap.

It has long puzzled me that the track layout at busy Drei Annen Hohne requires Brocken and Harzquerbahn trains to share rails at the west end. In the illustration above it looks like a double slip, but these days I think is simply a short section of track between the junction and the throat. Compare this to the layouts at rather-less-busy Alexisbad, Stiege and Eisfelder Talmühle, where parallel moves are possible and do happen.

The webcam at DAH confirms it is a short section of plain track these days  - https://www.hsb-wr.de/Webcam/Drei-Annen-Hohne/ but that also seems to have been the case back in NWE days - the Transpress book Harzquer- und Brockenbahn has a track layout dated 1912 which shows this feature. It also shows two bay platforms with a run-round facility serving the Brocken line only and I would guess that prior to 1961, when the Brocken became off-limits, there was a certain amount of shuttling between the Brocken (Schierke out of season) and DAH, connecting with Benneckenstein/ Nordhausen services - simultaneous departures (and arrivals) would have been possible. By the 1970s (and probably earlier) Schierke was only served by two through workings from/to Wernigerode, so the simplified (1980s?) layout still in use would have been more than adequate in the latter years of the DDR.

Hi,

Is there a decent retailer of model railways fairly near to the area, I know of none in Wernigerode.

Thank you

There was a modelshop directly next to Wernigerode station in 2018 but mostly G scale.
I use Modellbahnshoplippe which has several branches but I don’t know which are closest to the HSB.

There is a shop, can't say if its any good as I've not been in it:

https://www.train-line45.de/

If you Google search "Modelleisenbahn Wernigerode" it will give you all the shops in the area. If I'm going somewhere in Europe I always find out what the local language version of "model railway shop" is and do a google search before I go...

The "45" in the name of the shop says it already - they are specialised on 45mm track, means G-scale.

For those who are using this scale I am sure it is a very good shop, looks like in the upper price segment.

And the shop is actually in the Wernigerode train station.

You might find something in one of the Spiele Max stores in the area, but not all stores have a railway section and despite the fact I've been in the one in the shopping center opposite Magdeburg HBF in the last 2 years I don't recall if I found any toy trains (I was more desperate to find an optician to put a new screw in my reading glasses - which I did find! The Spiele Max in Dresden was looking like it was loosing the railways when I was in there in September.

Just bought a Tillig 2-10-2 loco for a future Harz layout. Has anyone built an H0m gauge Harz railcar 187 016-019? On the shapeways.com website, there is a 1:87 scale 3D printed bodyshell. The bodyshell comes in three different quality of finish.

I've got the TT version but not done anything with it as yet.

Where did ypu get the 2-10-2T from Richard, they seem scarce.

Modellbahn Lippe can order the three currently available, (green dot on image), and in theory you should only pay vat. Unfortunately the exchange rate is a lot less favourable than when I got mine :(

Alternatively Hobbyshop in Faversham or Arcadia in Oldham are Tillig stockists and should be able to quote a price.

Which version did you get? Thinking of getting one with the "Smooth Fine Detail Finish" so I don't have to do too much preparation before painting.

I’d certainly recommend the finest one as sanding the other materials flat takes ages and it’s very easy to round off details you want. I’d literally just bought the print for the 2-10-2 when the Tillig range was announced so it ended up as a dummy in the engine shed.

It was several years ago when I was modelling TTe, so TBH, I'm not sure which version, though I am pretty sure it was the best Shapeways had available at the time.

I've done a number of 3D printed models and know what you mean about sanding out the 3D step lines and not rounding off details. So thanks for your feedback. Next will be deciding which motored bogies to buy. The Halling H0m 21mm drive bogie with 8mm solid wheels looks the best so far.
