RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted March 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 26, 2019 On 19/03/2019 at 12:12, Bill Jamieson said: Here's a link to my Harzquerbahn shots as well - https://www.fotocommunity.de/user_photos/1764694?sort=new&folder_id=881928 These are only a fraction of what I took between 1977 and 1992 but there is a lot of repetition in the locations I photographed - the opportunities on the northern half of the line were actually quite limited until 1985 when tree felling started to reveal the famous S-curve south of the then former Draengetal crossing loop (since reinstated of course). Beyond Drei Annen Hohne both the main line and the Schierke branch disappeared into the Sperrgebiet, the former only becoming accessible again at Benneckenstein. In early 1990 after the wall came down I spent about a week in the Harz, mainly photographing the newly accessible section between DAH/Elend and Benneckenstein in great weather- I have since seen video of 99 6101 on Rollbock workings at Wernigerode that same week, including into the chocolate factory, which I really should have spent some time following. Too late now! Bill How absolutely wonderful - thanks for the two links.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted April 8, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 8, 2019 (edited) 7240 joins the roster and running very nicely on track and rollers. She will get the extra pickups just in case when the decoder goes in. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted April 15, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 15, 2019 (edited) So I’ve been using lighting rig supports made from aluminium L and they are nice and light but a pain to stack and transport in the numbers needed for the full layout. That’s 12 supports! I had an idea while idly staring at a shelf and thought why not use the slotted shelf brackets. A selection ordered for testing Edited April 22, 2019 by PaulRhB
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted April 22, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 22, 2019 Previously I’ve made my light rigs out of L aluminium angle pop riveted together which is nice and lightweight but not easy to store or transport. I found these in Wickes, I’ve found them in black online too. The uprights are single slot shelving racks and the arms just slot in so it’s easy to take apart and fast to set up. The light bars can be fitted to the little brackets. The arms come in 50mm sizes from 150-500 long but easy to extend further too. I’m going to fix them to the back with two bolts with captive T nuts in the frame. A 6mm bolt through their screw hole and a 4mm bolt through the slot so the holes just need to be vertical and not precisely spaced. Uprights are 1000mm and £4 and the arms from £1.40-£3.50 but it all packs flat and small 2
RMweb Gold Regularity Posted April 22, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 22, 2019 What a brilliantly simple idea.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted September 16, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16, 2019 Been a bit quiet on this recently but there are a few jobs to do ready for its next outing. The latest loco needs sound and the light rig needs finishing off. Warley is the next show and in the back of the latest modeller is the ‘Coming next month’ for November which traditionally has Warley layouts . . . and
leopardml2341
Don't often buy CM, might make an exception for this one Definitely won't be going to NEC though. Edited September 16, 2019 by leopardml2341
RMweb Premium ColinK Posted September 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 16, 2019 Oh, I’ll have to buy that. A reason to go to Warley if I can get the weekend off.
RMweb Premium Vecchio Posted September 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 16, 2019 Congrats Paul. Need to buy a copy of the CM as well....
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted September 17, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 17, 2019 Cheers, a fair bit has changed since the photos were taken 17 months ago. I got round to weathering the freight stock and Brunnenbachsmühle so something new to see at the NEC
TT-Pete
My copy of CM arrived in the post today, really interesting write-up with good pictures, big thumbs-up.
RMweb Premium ColinK Posted October 18, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 18, 2019 Excellent article, it has convinced me to go to Warley to see the layout. Just hope there are some trains from up north on the Sunday.
Chris89
Got my copy of the mag earlier in the week. The layout looks gorgeous. Look forward to seeing it at Warley as well.
Railpassion
Congratulations on being featured in Continental Modeller. I've been following progress on here for a good while. It's splendid work and so flexible due to the modular design. Next year I'm definitely going over to the Harz to experience the real thing.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted November 10, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 The new KB4ip longer coaches have been released https://www.modellbahnshop-lippe.com/Passenger+Cars/Standard+Passenger+Coach/Tillig-13981/gb/modell_313323.html
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted November 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 How may are you getting Paul?
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted November 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 I think the HSB tends to mix the longer coaches in rakes with other vehicles. so a couple is fine to start with.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted November 10, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 I’ve ordered 4 to mix in. With the size of Süd Harz I’ll mainly use them on the HSB mainline train and it releases a few spare coaches to make the sidings look busy.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted November 10, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 I’m still surprised they haven’t done more advert liveries. You’d think the collectibility would be worth it. I wonder if the licensing just isn’t viable for the numbers they sell.
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted November 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 A couple of these coaches on this train that we were on at Steige back in 1990 with worn red paintwork aswell.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted November 15, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 15, 2019 The hidden Wurmberg station has been a dead end spur up till now but I needed a container siding for supplies to the ski resort. I spliced in some of the Tillig Unitrack and now a click together ski resort station for the Seilbahn. Snow to be added
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted November 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 16, 2019 I was lucky enough to find Conti Modeller when I got back to the UK for a couple of weeks - congrats, Paul, on a 10-page spread! I hope Warley proves to be another success. 1

Sorry that I will not be able to make NEC this year to see the SHB. Must keep an eye out for other Shows when the invites stack up!

Andrew P
All the best for Warley Paul, 30 minutes down the road from me, but the cost of entry, parking, coffee etc is a tad on the ridiculous side for this Old Fa*t..
