RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted December 19, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 19, 2013 Nice bit of railway - I had a footplate ride (not entirely legal) along there in the early 1970s.

RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted December 19, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 19, 2013 Nice bit of railway - I had a footplate ride (not entirely legal) along there in the early 1970s. Dont recall doing that stretch in the cab but did do plenty of other lines in cabs, all legal though! Was a superb place to visit back then. Thats bit of station roof is the bit that blew down last nigh If I recall.
John M
One of my most exhilarating train rides was on an off-peak Cobh-Cork local during the late 80s. The train was made up of a 001 Class diesel locomotive and two laminate coaches, with that featherweight load the noise and acceleration away from the station stops was quite tremendous. The line went through an interesting mix of rolling stock and motive power conventional hauled stock with 001, 141 & 181 Class diesels, hired NIR 80 Class DEMUs in the late 80s early 1990s, Mitsui and Alstom railcars in recent years.
