I had only met him a couple of years ago, he was a great person, he painted and lined a couple of brass locos for me and his work was outstanding, he was also a great teacher I learned a lot from him in the short time I known him and he had a great sense of humour. I know that he had suffered a stroke a few months or a year or so ago, even so a devastating loss as he was a great chap and very skilled, this was highly apparent when you saw one of his demonstrations - he was a regular on the MMRS demos.
