Michael Delamar
That’s the L&Y Aintree Sefton Arms Station about 3 years after Walton shed and the CLC Aintree Central Station had closed. Sad sight when the locos were clean for race specials a few years earlier. I’ve not seen any evidence of Pacifics visiting Walton post war. Still trying to research what locos visited Walton on race days. Layout period is roughly 1958-63. I could replicate this working approaching Aintree Central under the L&Y line in 1962. The only coaching stock I could have on the layout. The turning of the empty stock with Devon Belle observation car on the Walton Triangle. It would have drawn up alongside the shed then set back around the triangle. I wish Hornby would do their Devon Belle car in this livery. CLC ash ballast again.

RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted April 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 7, 2019 The Shedbash Blogspot here: https://shedbashuk.blogspot.com/2013/02/walton-on-hill-1945-1956.html Has some listings for visits to Walton on the Hill, however, most are on Sundays, so as there was no racing on the Lords Day in those days, not much help. There are a few weekday/Saturday visits, but I have no idea if they were race days. Worth a look, though. Regards Ian
Michael Delamar
Chris Hewitt will have some of the buildings on his mould making demo stand at York Model Railway Show this weekend if anyone would like to view them and have a chat with him. Popular Post Michael Delamar
Bit of an update. I have been building some loco chassis at home, 2 comet Jinty chassis for Bachmann bodies and a Craftsman kit of a L&Y A class. As well as rewheeling lots of Hornby hopper wagons. Work on the layout itself has been on the lighting pelmets which are now built with the fluorescent lights installed and wired. Chris Hewitt has been working on the office buildings. Complete with the CLC style brickwork of a stretcher then 4 rows of headers. The buildings will soon be set into the ballast. 21

Michael Delamar
Prototype info update. I recently got this shot from the historical model Railway society. Just before Chris was painting the window frames on the office buildings which revealed the window frames were green. We didn’t know the colour until then.
Michael Delamar
Also had this find from a collection of an unknown photographer. The last day. Unfortunately I can’t make out the loco number.

Stephenwolsten
It's good to see the pictures of the overall model, thanks. Lovely brickwork too. A September 2020 show shouldn't be too much pressure.........!

Neither are we at the moment, most likely dates are 12th/13th September as that's our traditional weekend, the second one in September. Michael Delamar
Due to our clubroom wanting space our clubs layout Olive mount junction has been sold tonight, before it was opportunity was taken to set it up and test out some of the stock for Walton. A rake of Hornby hoppers and a couple of Accurascale ones in this rake which will be the empties from Clarence dock power station, they all ran good but need some more weight. We ran some other wagons and several steam locos which have recently been converted to EM gauge, they have had a good run round and tweak of things like pickups before decoders are put in them for Walton. Chris Hewitt is progressing with the shed office smaller office building, including adding the dividing wall which sticks out through the tiles. Steam locos which have been running around Olive Mount rest on Walton shed.
Stephenwolsten
One of the things I like about this well researched layout is the way it brings back memories of school and train spotting days. For example, I had forgotten about the allotments between Walton Hall Park and the Shed until I saw them on the layout. My older brother had a summer job street cleaning along Walton Road and picked up his hand cart each morning from the adjacent Corporation yard. Of course, our school used Queen's Drive Baths and I remember the shop on the corner opposite Walton Town Hall - the colour pictures by ? Rogers were obviously a great help with research. I got the bus home from school at the top of Rice Lane and remember the pre-flyover shops there. Apart from the houses shown on the model, a bit lower down was second hand shop called the Robot Stores, and a cake shop. I seem to remember a bank on one corner - in those days you had to have a letter of reference to open an account there. Mine came from my Headmaster. Below is a picture I took of 47467 shunting in the yard in January 1966. There is no modelling detail but at least it is a new photo to add to your collection! The quality is poor as it was taken in schooldays on an Ilford Sprite with 127 film in winter. 4

Nice update Michael Those Hornby hopper wagons are a bit light on their feet, so they're better if you can find somewhere to glue a bit of lead underneath..... They'll look even better once you've fitted proper handrails, just like the real thing, and a bit of weathering too. I appreciate wagon detail might not be at the top of your list where the layout is concerned, but no doubt it is on your eventual list anyway. Cracking stuff and makes me want to come back regularly and see how things are progressing.
Michael Delamar
The majority of those wagons are the newish Hornby HUO type with the high angled brake lever straight from the box, just with Markits wheels fitted and Yet to have the 3 link couplings fitted. I wasn’t aware these needed handrails. I’ve a few of the older Hornby/Airfix type with plastic handrails. Most are NCB or TOPS liveried ones as I couldn’t get the E numbered ones, but a quick wipe off with thinners and I need to add the black label and numbers. Here are some shots of the trains of empties from Clarence dock power station on the CLC near Childwall Liverpool. Im still looking into making a few of the Liverpool corporation hoppers to add to this rake. I won’t be building a full rake of them.... According to this it looks like Clarence dock power station was converted to oil firing by 1963. The same year Walton shed closed, maybe that was one of the reasons the shed closed as a loss of one of its traffic flows? https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C2719841 Edited June 9, 2019 by Michael Delamar

Jack P
Michael, This layout is extremely impressive in both size and scope - Not to mention the quality of modelling is superb! I can certainly appreciate and respect the amount of research that's gone into getting it here, and make your vision a reality. Looking forward to seeing more updates. Oh, also, I've been very tempted to go EM recently, and this isn't helping!
