RMweb Live - 13/14 September - Ricoh Stadium, Coventry

It's with pleasure that we can now announce a very different sort of event for 2014.

On the weekend of 13th and 14th September 2014 we'll be holding RMweb Live in the Jaguar Hall (a huge hall!) at the Ricoh Stadium Coventry.

We'd like it to be quite different from any conventional show and we're currently working on some unusual ideas including the latest innovations within the hobby as well as 'conventional' skills and maybe even cross a few boundaries into other modelling areas. We'd like the show to be of a format where visitors can actually take something away from the event in terms of inspiration or the will and knowledge to have a go at some different approaches. Yes; there will be a number of layouts and I'll be working on trying to pull in some personal favourites which are outside the realms of what you may see at 'conventional' shows on the circuit.

It's not like a Members Day as it's much bigger than that but neither do we want to be doing just another show as this is an opportunity with a comparative blank sheet of paper to look at to do things differently and as with previous RMweb events we'd like to open the door for the membership to have some input on what they may like to see in terms of demos, layouts or other content so if you have any interesting ideas or would like to put forward a layout or project for consideration for inclusion just give me a shout or spread your thoughts through here.

Probably be the biggest crowd they ever had there...shame cos its not that long since Coventry won the FA cup :( shame on thier owners... and  total shame on Warners for joining in ) Ill not be there - thats for sure ...I really hope you and all who go there are embarrassed, and no one goes at all/

I don't half have to put up with some guff on here sometimes.

how to you envision keeping the general public out to keep it "RMweb-only access" as the site is visited by many non-members who'll read this thread with great interest and perhaps see an opportunity to take advantage. That is, if I understand your remark about 'not becoming just another show' correctly ;

It's not a members only event, it's a model railway show with a difference.

OOOOoo interesting!!!! on the dot of 12 too :) Actually sounds really good, for me CAD and Templot clinics would be  good..

Totally agree

ok I`m first to admit not been to a show for years and like many coming back and seeking help in all sectors.

This to me means demo/test areas as in

air brushing where folk can get tips and be able to test spray different makes of air brush kits etc.

simple base board construction and techniques, best tool advise etc.

faller road system - how to install / kits available /  max size limitations etc.

signals  manual and electronic - how to wire up/ where to place them demo and self test build area.

track building tips and small have ago yourself area - say build a small 6" straight piece.

track planning software like backofanenvelope  said where folk can see and have a go at  Templot, Anyrail to name two covering RTR made track to those interested in building there own.

RM web is a great vast knowledge of info and help but what is said in black and white is not always clears. A live demo and the chance to try the equipment for one self in a small a test area, is the common I cant do that too have a test go and wow that's easier then a I thought.

Obviously it comes down too venue size and costings for materials needed with the trying yourself areas.

The ricoh stadium Coventry has a bus stop on route 4 from the city centre and is in the plusbus zone. I would look forward to a demo/workshop area, and a theater area showing layouts that cant leave their homes for example like the far north line.

sorry you lost me there...?

So its a good thing that CCFC sold out to go to nothing then? :O

Ok

behave this sen

The Ricoh Arena, jointly owned by Coventry City Council and a charitable trust is more than just the football ground with the main exhibition hall, several other large rooms for events a casino and a hotel.

Coventry City Football Club (at that time owned by Sisu Capital, a hedge fund) have had a long-standing dispute with ACL over rent and chose last summer to vacate the site and move to Northampton FC's ground, I believe the Council did try to seek a resolution including a rent-free period. Anyway, that's by the by as the exhibition hall would be available to hire whether the football stadium has a tenant or not so I do not see how those events have any bearing on our event; we're not responsible for or have any involvement with what path CCFC chose to take. I'm not 'embarrassed' by any aspect of that.

I presume you checked the date of Expo EM North before the Ricoh Arena was booked Andy?

In truth I didn't choose the date Pete, it was a very limited number of dates that were available and the only one which didn't clash with other commitments that Warners had so the date was booked by the company. As soon as I realised the date that had been booked I contacted Derek to discuss and wish to ensure that we do everything we can not to negatively impact Expo EM North and indeed actively support through RMweb. We won't be competing over layouts or traders and as both events are on both days hopefully we can maximise folks going to both events.

I like a model railway show with a bit of other model disciplines mixed in. A good example is Southend where you also have aircraft/boat/bus/military modellers that demonstrate some modelling techniques and practices that could be applied to model railways. I am aware of several RMwebbers in my local area (South Essex) and I wonder if it would be possible to organise a coach to the event.

I strongly suspect that like many others of a similar leaning, I'll be in Manchester that weekend.

HI All

Same weekend as the N Gauge show in Leamington spa, but I am sure warner's  have done all there research into what trade will all be available and manufacturers.    so is this going to be organised by warner's exhibitions

Regards Arran.

As someone on here who can walk to this venue and can literally see it from gwrrob's towers master bedroom,I think Warners have chosen well for the venue for what looks like being a mouth watering show.

Roll on September I say.If anyone needs info on the area please ask.

Apart from exhibitors people can always do both shows in one weekend if it's within reach ;)

Sounds like a great idea, one thing I'd like to see is the biggest possible range of scales to show the range available.

I thought you were going to give me a lift from the station - what is this 'walk' word, Coventryese for 'ride in my car'?  :jester:  ;)

At our small open day in Hessle, we have a local boat modelling group along to show off their skills and they are always well received.

I'd also agree that busses are a minefield for us railway modellers, having fallen foul of a "bus gaffe" last year.

Great idea for a show though, will hopefully be able to get along.

Cheers.

Sean.

Hi Andy

I am willing to assist your venture.

Idea's of what I could do include a demo of how I build my own figures as this is not a usual railway modeller's habit. Even building my own diesel locomotives is a bit off beat.

Or if need be I am willing to relieve the punters of their dosh as they come in the door.
