Hi,

After the recent Autumn Steam Gala at the ELR the sight of seeing 6009 Union of South Africa It inspired me to replicate this in my own version of Rawtenstall (yes i know mine is Sir Ronald Mathews!):

Just a close up further down the track

These ere taken after the new platforms were installed which are awaiting platform sides and tops. Does anyone know the best method of making coping stones? Im trying to avoid using card,

I just recently had an urge to take some pictures to test different angles/positions on the layout which will hopefully become better in the future as the layout gains more detail and realism. One photo is of the nearly finished platform which i will take more photos of when it is complete. Also i have been recently amazed at just how much detail go into these small models hence some close ups have been taken to,

Helo all,

Hop you all had a good christmas and a New Year and the recent holidays has given me quite a bit of time off to do more work on the layout. First of all more progress has been made on the platforms which now have coping stones (a lot of saw cuts were needed!) which have also been painted along with the platform tops. Anyway pictures are better than words for explaining so here they are:

After that a dark grey wash was applied and then wiped off with a tissue. I have also started on the white line which will need a couple of layers:

Finally the shed area now has a concrete hardstanding ready for the engine shed to sit on:

And similar foundation for the coal stage:

Some pictures of the real thing for comparison:

Hope to get the platforms sides finished soon so i can get on with some landscaping,

Hello all,

Its been a while but i've managed to do some more work on the layout particularly on the platforms. This afternoon I fancied a running session so took some photos with my phone:

Here you can see the newly painted brickwork and weathering done to the sides of the platforms since the last update. This was quite simply done with whatever stone-looking humbrol tins I had in my tool box to which I painted some of the stones with to add variety. This was then covered in an acrylic wash to tone the colours down and merge them together.

Engine shed now on this is the view from just outside it which will look better with more detail and painting to tone down those whites a bit.

At one stage i had quite a few engines in the yard so managed to line up this shot of three of them.

Here my Deltic can be seen on the dinning service.

A recent couple of addition over christmas was the invicta CCT van which the ELR currently has in service so i thought I would have one to! The Hornby 28XX is also new and has been renumbered to 2857 (the one preserved at the severn valley railway). Although its from the GWR I really do like these engines and the locomotive did run on the ELR in the 1990s so that kind of means I can run it right?

And finally a shot from the windows at the front of the carriage of the Fairburn tank as it leaves the station,

Hope everyone had a good festive season,

Gary

its nice to see another person doing a ELR themed layout, currently im (almost) ready to start on a basic representation of Bury Bolton street!

Thanks! Apologies  for the late reply, I do miss the layout from time to time, it always had a bit more of a gritty feel than the WSR, looking forward to seeing your layout though, preservation layouts do seem to be gathering traction recently,
