Not so much in the flesh more in the wood! But we do have some more buildings already - station buildings, water tower, weigh house... and even some signals.

Hope to see you at the show

So, emboldened by getting the mainlines running, we will be wiring the loops up this weekend, fingers crossed.

Last night was passenger train testing. Couple of back to back from issues but otherwise OK.

Blue Pullman's available, coach mainline rakes available, 4 coach Manchester Derby sets available and local pull and push sets available.... Phew!

I managed to test the loops and some more locos today... biggest problem encountered is my Hornby rebuilt Scot has a shifted wheel...

Edited to take note of items spotted by others!

Last club night before our show this weekend so a bit more testing then we need to take it all down.

Hopefully some signals will be fitted temporarily for the show, station buildings are ready with the basic canopy in place, water towers and weighbridge also ready. It's been a hectic few weeks but a lot of effort from our members (plus a visitor from "Grantham") means we have a basic layout for the show.

Liking the busy look of freight trains in the loops ;)

Pedant mode 'on'

It's 'Gowhole' - not 'Gowholes' (ie no 's'). A curious name all round, its origin lost in the 19th century history of the railway that gave it its name. In its heyday it was actually the Midland Railway district operating centre! (useless factoid of the day)

(edit - and while we're at it, that unrebuilt 'Scot' is actually a 'Patriot'!)

Pedant mode 'off'!

More testing completed last night. Odd bits of stock need tweaking but otherwise it went reasonably well.

Gantry signal to make presentable and on double arm signal to build today.

Hope to see some of you this weekend at our show.

So from our testing some observations:

some RTR locos have shocking wheel back to back and/or profiles

a drop of oil on some of our stock won't go amiss

post show we may be doing a bit of pointwork renewal/fixing.

track needs to be cleaned with something additional to an Eileens' ( the original Eileen) track cleaner.

well, other than a dodgy fishplate and a coach which has developed a short... yes its a metal kit built coach .....the layout seems to be settling down. Mike Edge has done a lot of track bashing, LNER 4479 has checked out his loaned trains so.. let the show begin. More pics tomorrow all being well...

Some hiccups today but trains have been running for most of the day....apart from a bit of time when a wheel over a insulation gap stopped one line dead...

Hopefully by Warley 2017 it will be finished.

Thanks for the comments received today the odd negative is balanced by a lot of positives as well as reference to it being EM.

thanks for the input form our visitors again today. Just shows that the use of well built track means that a OO layout was seen as being EM to one or two of our visitors- which is good!

For the future- scenery to do , wiring to finish, more track to be added, lighting to be sorted, nameboards to be done... so lots to do....

Having spent many, many hours poring over photographs of Bakewell station building, it still takes me aback to see your Chapel Station.

It also surprised me to see how dirty you modelled it, but thinking about it, Chapel was much more of an industrial area than Bakewell, and the stonework would undoubtedly have been as you have portrayed it, whereas Bakewell never really got that black patina except above the canopies.

A wonderful job, and would like to see it in the flesh one day.

Update,

layout back in club room. Scenic boards have had the temporary cabling for the show removed and proper wiring now to be undertaken.

Now for scenery, more buildings, finishing the signals, getting nameboards, ....

We have re-erected the fiddle yards. Minor changes to the fiddle yard control panels identified at the show will now be undertaken.

Minor heart stopping moment in the Club when it was announced that next wednesday would be a running session on the layouts in the club... a head appeared from behind the baseboards belonging to our scenic board wiring guru..... he was happy when told this didn't include Chapel .. at least not this month (but we can run the fiddle yards...)

so onwards and upwards!

Due to an imminent Club Room move Chapel has had to be crated up. It won't need a big van to move it - probable a Long Wheelbase Transit (or even a normal one) will do

post-7650-0-57138800-1455394063_thumb.jpg

This move is slowing down our development of Chapel but other things are continuing to move on (including buildings and signals)

Woohoo!  New club rooms will be available in the next few weeks - so we can get Chapel out of store and get the wiring and scenery done.. all to be complete by September 2017..... so thats some wiring, testing, ballasting, testing, signals to finish and install, testing, scenery, testing, backscenes, testing, additional storage sidings to fit, testing, facia and lighting and testing!

Looks like the critical path is testing!.. or it could be waiting for the Hattons ICI hoppers
