I think all the passenger turns into South Wales and North Wales/NW England were SWD (ie EH) diagrams although HG locomotives turned up on them fairly regularly.

In my forthcoming 33 book there are a couple of pics of slim jims in north Wales on passenger trains.

I remember having a conversation with the shed foreman at Eastleigh a few months after the North Wales/North West diagrams started.  He was not a happy bunny with his charges so far from home for extended periods and, only half jokingly, said he always tried to fix it so that any HG locomotives to hand went on those turns if possible.

33.102 seen light engine on the approaches to Waterloo, 31st August 1979.

The image resonates with me as it depicts a background that has all been swept away.

That's a really nice shot.

Did my one-day short circuit bar training by the hut in the background. Don't know why they gave us a day - it took about half an hour. Spent the rest of the day in the pub!

The Crown & Cushions just by the bridge and stairs up to the training school ? @Pete 75C

It must have been about 1988. I remember the stairs up to the training school, and it was close, so maybe, but for some reason the name doesn't ring a bell. Memory fog?

Judging by the length of that one it has come from MOD Kineton, on its way to Marchwood perhaps?

That view is somewhat different now as between Aynho Road and the church at Kings Sutton is the M40.

I seem to recall this was a regular Saturday morning working, probably from Lawley St., and presumably used the loco off the FO Portsmouth Harbour-Leeds.

Always nice to see and especially hear a Crompton in use on the railway these days.

A smattering of passengers looking forward to their journey behind classic diesel traction (or, conceivably steam hauled between York and Scarborough) wait as WCRC 33207 'Jim Martin' arrives at Brighouse on 27th August 2020 with the Scarborough Spa Express.   The 33 was accompanied by WCRC 37706.

The protracted booked stop also allowed me sufficient time to reach a lineside location further along from the station.

Reading station in the early 80's. 33203 & 33055, MGR wagons and 08946.

These are sequential photos, not entirely sure what was going on....don't recall MGR trains being a regular feature during my spotting days at Reading. Appears the 33's were pulling the MGR wagons eastwards/Paddington direction with the 08 attached to the back, then they uncoupled and ran back along the mainline westbound (reverse direction?) whilst the 08 pulled the wagons back where they came from.

That’s a very interesting sequence of photos and I’m struggling to work out what was going on there. For a start, a pair of 33s on a train like that at Reading is unusual enough. If there was an 08 on the back as it passed through the station, that could only really have been attached at Reading West Junction and yet the 08 is then seen pulling the wagons along the down goods line, presumably bound for Reading West Junction sidings. Very perplexing...
