Hi Jack

Where did you get the GP-40 from please?

Cheers

Bob

Hi Bob...

I got it off the Rocky Mountaineer itself, it said it was a limited edition, but I believe you can get it from their online shop.

What LEDs are those? What is diameter of the tubular extensions?

Cheers!

Jeffrey...they're 2mm lighthouse LEDs filed down around the stem

I'm back!

Had a brill holiday, everything was amazing, and we crammed loads in! I can seriously recommend the 'Rocky Mountaineer', it's a brilliant experience, even if you aren't in first class!

Today I've returned to the 'bench and tackled the new light units for 47501, made using copper clad and tiny 0603 SMDs.

I start by cutting the original light lenses and lower portion of the cab section off with a junior hacksaw...

post-21664-0-79713400-1408991923_thumb.jpg

Then I cut a rectangle of copper clad (measured of course...11mm by 26mm), and drill the holes for the SMDs, which are marked using the original bit as a guide, then cut tracks in to separate the different polarities:

post-21664-0-84181400-1408991932_thumb.jpg

Now...the hard part

Carefully solder the SMDs in, making sure the little green arrow is pointing towards the minus pole bit. Then solder in three wires for the r/w minuses and the pos. common...

post-21664-0-93538500-1408991942_thumb.jpg

Then test it! :senile:

Using a 3v cell:

Way too bright because there are no resistors yet, but you get the picture!

The spare lights/lenses/couplings from the project so far may be appearing on classifieds soon...if you need any spares :locomotive:

Happy modelling!

Jack.

Very pleased and they have turned out as I would've wanted. Just got red, blue and black to spray now! :)

Also just finished the drivers of 'Craftsman', but I'm a bit disturbed by what the left hand man is doing with his hand! :O

He was a fireman out of a steam set...honest!

Hi,

After successful efforts with an airbrush I sprayed the 37 nose ends, and have now added number transfers (railtec) and warning flashes (replica)...

post-21664-0-41033200-1409677789_thumb.jpg

Today I also sprayed the black roofs of 20308 and 37259, and last week I sprayed the bodies blue:

post-21664-0-05312500-1409677782_thumb.jpg

Also last week, I not only got the generator coach sprayed yellow, but I also added hand painted (but masked...I'm not that good! :P) cantrail lines:

post-21664-0-03904200-1409677798_thumb.jpg

And now for something completely different! (Apologies)........A kettle! :O

The other day 46233 suffered a severed speedo cable, so a new one had to be manufactured (wire)...

post-21664-0-01371500-1409677763_thumb.jpg

The fitters also took the chance to fit new fangled air pipes, lamps, a vacuum pipe and a screw link and back plate:

The Duchess will be back on the main line after tea. :D

That's all folks!

Evening,

I won on eBay a 'job lot' of Bachy spares comprising of 1x DRS 66412 body and a GBRF chassis.

The chassis had the old style 'WIPAC' clusters, so I thought about making a DRS 66421-433/66301-305.in hindsight I would have been better off getting the original chassis for the 'dred' because of a chunky box behind the black light clusters (I made from plasticard), but hey ho!

Anyways here's the current front end (to be 66428, not 66412):

post-21664-0-91572300-1410111347_thumb.jpg

And here's the fuel tank, literally chopped down and glued back together...

post-21664-0-67163700-1410111456_thumb.jpg

I'll fill it after, but that's it! I now have a current DRS 66! :boast:

Happy modelling!

Jack.

Hi all,

This weekend I've been building signals for our club 'roundy roundy', a 2 track gantry and a single 2 aspect post mounted one. The gantry is plastic rod and brass heads, and the single one is all brass constructed:

post-21664-0-07976500-1411331035_thumb.jpg

Also I've finished the cant rail line on me 20...all hand painted (masked of course! :P)...

post-21664-0-31411500-1411331041_thumb.jpg

And tonight I've added all the transfers....no micro sol/set or other tricks...plain ol' tap water, and I'm very pleased! :boast:

Good evening...

Today, as a weekend project, I've decided to restart from scratch a project I attempted many moons ago...a KFA log carrier.

To begin, some plasticard was cut into two 32x36mm rectangles, and scored across every 1/4 ish(7.5mm), and two scores down with a gap of 17mm. From pictures, this gave me a good idea of where to cut the corners...

post-21664-0-84912500-1411850374_thumb.jpg

Then some 'H' angle and square strip was added on these lines:

post-21664-0-59324200-1411850386_thumb.jpg

After this, 4 layers of plasticard were glued together, and profiled like so to form the top bit...

post-21664-0-43760800-1411850500_thumb.jpg

Then I started on the stanchions by glueing 25mm lengths of strip to some triangular pieces...imagine this times 9! :O

post-21664-0-19821800-1411850394_thumb.jpg

Then I cheated :nono:.

Because the ridges across the deck were vaguely in the right places, I just snipped off the ends and glued the stanchions on (& a few extra). This is how it looks right now, ends glued on too:

post-21664-0-58074100-1411850412_thumb.jpg

I'd say about 3hrs solid work. Easy! :P

Happy modelling!

Jack.

Soooo...

This evening I added the transfers and all the little labels, and painted brake wheels and levers white...

post-21664-0-72623200-1412111716_thumb.jpg

Tomorrow I'm off school so more may get done in between homework!

Happy modelling,

Jack.

Hi,

In the half hour I have to myself now, I've weathered the stanchions and inner ends...

post-21664-0-76289200-1412264623_thumb.jpg

No all that's left is to give it a misting with an airbrush, and it's done!

Now.....where's that spare 56 body? :scratchhead:

(I haven't actually got one....I've got a 60 though!?)

Happy modelling! ;)

Jack.

Hi,

Today I've done one of them jobs you keep putting further back...adding a top light to 37259.

To start, I cut a slot in the top of the Middle window, through the frame as well...

post-21664-0-39762200-1412436270_thumb.jpg

Then I cut a piece of square section to shape, and stuck on the front a piece of strip with a 1.7mm hole in it...

post-21664-0-64681900-1412436260_thumb.jpg

post-21664-0-17244600-1412436290_thumb.jpg

This is the cavity left behind...enough for an 0603 LED and wires.

post-21664-0-42385700-1412436297_thumb.jpg

A quick 10 minute jobbie, I just dreaded cutting a slot in the top of an engine!

Next job I'm dreading is cutting down 4 wagon bodies to half height...

Happy modelling!

Jack.

New project started...but can you tell what it's going to be to be? Answers on the back of a fiver to.....

attachicon.gifimage.jpg

I'll give you a clue...it doesn't carry track panels. :scratchhead:

Jack.

Hmmmmm - FEA-S with 30' modules - possibly "salmon" type flats and to be used for various loads - example, sleepers.

Or one of the many different modules for welded rail delivery or Balfour Beatty TRT.

I have a couple of ideas to do the GBRf/Metronet FEA-S singles, just because they're yellow...............

Cheers,

Mick
