Chrikey you are a creative chap.

Top marks for putting the effort in !

Interested to see the flashing tail lamp on the FNA - I'd looked and concluded there wasn't space. I will think again now.

Best....

Thanks Nick,

There is space in the flask wagon if you undo the underframe...two screws under the bogies and two either side of the middle section.

Be aware though, as mine were rather tight and I managed to b*gger up the screw head! and had to cut around it...

There is space where the weights go...I used a Black Cat Tech flasher (no connection), and it's a little slow but is small enough to fit.

You can pick them up for a fiver on eBay.

Hi,

The DRS tractor is still progressing slower than hoped because my layout/diorama has taken over recently, but yesterday I managed to make the lighting boards from a copper clad strip

The coach is nearly done, and it finally got some Evergreen 4031 clapboard, so I have glued these in from behind using hot glue...

post-21664-0-53069400-1403032662_thumb.jpg

The footsteps on the coach have been painted white

post-21664-0-82764700-1403032578_thumb.jpg

And warning flashes/data panels/C1 markings have been added to the ends after a coat of gloss varnish.

post-21664-0-63933400-1403032588_thumb.jpg

The roof has had its last coat, the underframe/ends need varnishing, and the sides need painting before final assembly. I may add an electrical curcuitboard to power interior lights, but it's getting there!

Hi,

I've had no time recently because if school and scout camps, but today I went to my local model shop (Transport Models, Preston) and picked up some square strip...which was duly cut to size and attached to form the lights...

Also went to see the various charters at Preston today...pictures on my spotting thread tomorrow (hopefully)

Hi,

I haven't updated for a while because of school, but now I'm off for six weeks!

I've been fiddling with my VT 57309, and I've now finished it. So......here's what I did...

I added the missing lights in the same way as the 66; blu tack some tiny LEDs to the black light housing...but I wired them differently. First, scrape away some of the coating of the curcuitboard tracks where the front and rear negatives, and the pos. common come off the decoder (working on an 8 pin version. Then solder on some wires....

post-21664-0-98433900-1406212962_thumb.jpgpost-21664-0-85746800-1406212973_thumb.jpg

And the second pic shows the resistors soldered in.

This is a sequence showing the light options now...day h/light, night h/light, no headlight (shunting) and rear. IMHO it makes a massive difference to how it looks...

post-21664-0-94624400-1406213013_thumb.jpg

I've also made a working representation of the dellner from a kadee, and mounted it on a pivot with a magnet at the bottom...

post-21664-0-99790400-1406213115_thumb.jpg

As per the prototype, one exhaust port must be blanked off (plastic strip):

post-21664-0-23311200-1406213141_thumb.jpg

...And last but not least...I need a pendolino to go with it

So cut a hole in the front and glue a kadee in (at the right height)

And they go round my track seamlessly. :boast:

Thanks,

Jack.

Aha, I see you've modelled the latest version of the 57 too, with the Voyager-style internal-framed bogies... :jester:

Haha yeah, I leave the bogie frames off to weather them separately and to weather the loco wheels wholly.

I didn't know that the 57s were being reengineered..............lol :P

So....

After finishing the '57, I've restarted 20308...which started by stripping it down (prev. post). I've now primed it, added a new roof grill (EE etch), added buffers (A1) and made a start on the extra fuel tanks (plastikard)....

post-21664-0-63222800-1406298969_thumb.jpg

The next hurdle will be the window frames...designed for a Bachmann 'chopper', they are too big. The small cab end windows are also well out of size for the flush glazing:

post-21664-0-46450200-1406298958.jpg

...and lastly, just before lunch I made some WIPAC 'IOo' light clusters from black plastikard.

post-21664-0-15820300-1406298976_thumb.jpg

Back to it now as I won't be doing any this weekend (visiting grandparents) :/

Hi Jack,

You'll find that the new windows on the 20/3 are quite large. Even the Bachmann 20's require the existing windows to be enlarged. (Two sizes of windows fitted to the actual 20's - those fitted with a tablet catcher - mostly Scottish allocated - had deeper windows and even those need carefully enlarging on the Bachy releases with the large windows)

Cheers,

Mick

More done on the 20 in these past few days, starting with finishing the no. 2 end, with dummy light clusters, top headlight and MU socket:

post-21664-0-51361400-1406718541_thumb.jpg

Also pipes from the extra fuel tanks have been added, and the cab windows have been enlarged to take the flush glazing...

post-21664-0-96908800-1406718556_thumb.jpg

More enlarging/reshaping of windows;

post-21664-0-84262000-1406718573_thumb.jpg

And finally, both the 'chopper' and the 37 primed ready for an oxford blue dip after my holiday...

Thanks,

Jack. :)

Afternoon....

The '37 that I started isn't done yet, but today I've finished and primed the nose ends...

post-21664-0-97729800-1406810685_thumb.jpg

The 'chopper' is whistling along (sorry!), and I'm just starting to wire it up, but I cut the original track feeds too short...so new ones had to be soldered in:

post-21664-0-55692500-1406810670_thumb.jpg

I also bought a 'lucky bag' of IC sockets from Maplins, and they are the same size as a DCC socket...

post-21664-0-53217500-1406810662_thumb.jpg

A new project is DRS' 47501 'Craftsman', the recent (ish) MR limited edition. This will be done in much the same way as 47787, and it started by adding the (redundant) MU socket...

post-21664-0-37596600-1406810701_thumb.jpg

...After painting this, I went to screw the lid back on the paint jar....

post-21664-0-80166500-1406810677_thumb.jpg

I obviously don't know me own strength! :nono:

I occasionally have the opposite problem....with my paint pots....i tend to wipe the excess down the side and occasionally it gets between the jar and the lid....then I can't undo them......one was so bad Kal had to cut it off...then i transferred the content to an empty bottle.

edit = ooops forgot to say liking your work, and the last post beat me to the 'post' excellent work on such a tight curve. Jukebox has been attacking similar work. Very impressive....Very fiddly too I suspect.

I get that problem with the railmatch jars too....I find if you put the lid between a door and the frame, and gently pull the door closed, it releases it...just don't do it too hard!

Any guesses? No prizes cause it's easy... :P

Jack.

Looking good with DC460000.

Are you going to fit lights?

The new SGT's are easier!

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks Mick,

I'm planning to using 3/5 mm LEDs, but not in the coming weeks...unless I take it to America and Canada with me!

Be careful - you'll be coming back with ideas for SD60's, AC44's etc............

Cheers,

Mick
