keefer 2,250
I thought it must've been a relatively recent thing but here she is, looking very scabby, in 1978 and the fitting is present. Unless they were fitted with the piping etc. in readiness for dual-braking, which for whatever reason, didn't happen By Thomas Harper on Flickr 7
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock 14,139 Posted October 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 27, 2020 Presumably given that bogies were a problem area swaps were frequent at works visits. Bogie from DB loco put on VB loco, Pipe would have to be removed to prevent confusion I guess...
Barclay 1,684
40 028 'Samaria' albeit with rusty patches instead of nameplates, stands at Scarborough in August 1983. She had just followed her train to the end of the platform and now waits in the sun for the 03 station pilot to clear the line before completing the run-round.

03060 381
Hello Tim, probably just a typo but 3rd photo down is 40 009 not 40 099. Thanks for these, please keep them coming, interested to note 40 015 with an air braked scrap wagon behind it, not a combination I would have immediately thought of but one that I’ll keep in mind for my latest 80’s themed ‘Depot with passing mainline’ type cameo. Regards, Ian.

Regards, Ian. Yes, it was just a typo. Thanks, I've corrected it. 009 was a bit of a celeb as the last vac only one. I remember thinking 015s train was odd even then!
ColinK 2,954
Just finished my model of 40062, one of the odd ones that were converted in Scotland from disc headcodes to centre headcodes with square corners. Its made from a Bachmann split headcode 40. Bear in mind that the frontal view is probably bigger on your screen than the actual model.

Covkid 720
Futher to the debate about 40106 and it's stopped off air brake pipe, 40121 was another of several vaccy 40s that ran on at least one dual brake bogie.
03060 381
A superb photo @Covkid which would make a great subject for a 1st weathering project directly onto a factory finished 'clean' loco...... plus, the assorted Engineer's train with at least 3 different types or shades of ballast in the first 8 wagons. Thanks for posting.
ColinK 2,954
I like the vertical stripes on the side of the loco.

Thanks for posting. Apologies. I cannot take any credit for the photo. I merely did a websearch for an image of 40121, then posted the link, not expecting the image to be displayed. The reason I know 40121 was in that condition was because I walked past it at Bescot in the winter of 1981 or 1982 and remember it's red bufferbeams.

NR http://www.leightonlogs.org Great piccie and thanks for sharing. Not sure about Bescot being the destination, unless you know it for sure. I would be guessing it is a Stanlow-Rowley Regis loaded gas oil train, probably turning left and heading for Portobello and Bescot then a climb up Soho with a banker, then via Galton Jn to Rowley.
